Post Game Vikings defeat GB 27-25

Didn’t see the game but at this point in the year they are what they are. They’re a solid football team but not good enough to hang with the big boys yet. That’s just reality.

Could GB win a playoff game? Sure. But a deep playoff run? Doubtful. But never say never.

The key things from this year that aren’t going to change at this point in the season: let’s be honest there are some highly paid people on that Def that don’t live up to their contracts. The OL is just not good enough. And those WR aren’t all of a sudden going to learn how to catch better.

A lot is put on ML and Love but Gutey hasn’t put a complete team on the roster yet, despite what it looks like on paper.

We are exactly who we are. A pretty team. We make some big plays.

Against, the Eagles, Vikings, and Lions, our offensive line was run over. The Lions 2d and 3d string ran over our starting offensive line.

We beat 2d and 3d string QBs and extremely depleted teams.

We beat the Bears on the luck of a finger.

As fun as they are, our guys are unfortunately boys playing against men when it counts - and that goes for the coaches as well - please go for it on 4th and 1 again instead of kicking a field goal [sarcasm].

LaFleur's got 1 big win. Last year against Dallas in the playoffs when for 2.5 periods- everything went our way.

Love y'all, but we're golfing in January.

Go Pack Go, do what you do

With Washington winning means unless Dallas beats them and GB beats Chicago that GB will again be the 7th seed and go to Philly to play the Eagles.

This is an issue, it’s been an issue, teams know it’s an issue and they go right for it. I think Hafley has done a good job with what he’s got but to stop this you need one of: a great pass rush, ILBs who can get depth and cover, or good/ consistent corner and safety play. GB has had none of the above.

I’ve said over and over in recent weeks, Joe Barry wasn’t crazy for playing soft. He had many issues but Hafley learned right away what Barry also knew, that beyond Jaire and now maybe Valentine in spurts you can’t let these corners press because they will get roasted.

I like our players at S but the two rookies have been hurt and they’re also both rookies and that’s a tough position for them to pick up right away and succeed at. And moving Bullard around in light of that is really doing him a disservice. Bullard is a rookie but they ask more out of him mentally than our vet corners and I think that’s unfair.

Cooper is a stud and Quay has improved, the other two ILBs are just punching bags at this point who can’t play moving backwards.

Pass rush is just a disappointment overall.

Another disappointing game against a top team. At this point you have to say that they are what they are, the 3rd best team in the division, and the 4th or 5th best team in the NFC. Doesn't mean they can't get on a hot streak and win it all, but right now, that doesn't look likely.

None of my keys to the season were a factor in this game. Kicking game was pretty much flawless, run defense gave up a few things but was solid, and the QB play was fine if not exactly stellar.

The most disappointing thing was that the offense, once again, was not ready for the Vikings blitzes, and that goes from the o-line all the way to the QB and coaching. Brian Flores seems to have ML's number and the Packers don't seem to have an answer early in these games.

The defense was under-manned and it showed. Gave up way to much in the middle of the field and made Darnold look like the better QB yesterday . . . geez he put up some gaudy numbers. One thing it did point out to me, yet again, is that WR is a sneaky need on this team. The Vikings had the two best recievers on the field, and you could argue that Nailor was the 3rd best. Reed has been a non-factor in many games this year and Doubs and Wicks are not good enough to make up for Watson whom they really needed yesterday. Edge, CB, WR and OL look like needs in the coming off-season.

Now, go get healthy and hope for some magic in the playoffs!

Rethinking at what I saw last night:

Offense: Jacobs continues to be the biggest reason this offense is solid. This is not a knock on Jordan Love but I think he is a QB that needs a running game to be able to perform well. The same thing happened last year when Jonesy got going then Love played better and the offense was better. Our WR's are average without Watson being able to take the top off the coverage. We missed him big time yesterday. We need a difference maker at WR and we don't have that because Gute continues to ignore that position at least with high draft picks that are skilled WR's. I thought our o-line played ok. We averaged 4.2 yards per carry running the football. (Although some of that was Jacobs breaking tackles) We supposedly according to the announcers and the stats has only given up 4 pressures and no sacks after 3 quarters. I still do not love Meyer or Walker or Rhyan but that's just my opinion. This is another area that we could upgrade. Lastly, I didn't love ML's game plan on offense. Kraft is a stud and yet we continue to only target him 1 or 2 times per game.

Defense: Hafley has done a fantastic job with this D this year considering what he has had to deal with. He still doesn't have his players but they are in the top 5 in run defense and in the top 10 in overall defense. I thought they played pretty well last night considering the offense scored 3 points in a little over 3 quarters. Anytime you hold the Vikings offense to 25 or less, you have a chance to win the game. The pass rush is the major issue with this D. We blitzed yesterday and the Vikings were ready for it. We all knew that and it continues to show and will cause an issue in the playoffs. I thought Valentine played really well last night at CB. Nixon was ok and Bullard gave up to huge TDs but he was kind of out of position.

STs: This ultimately has been fixed by McManus and Whalen. Pretty solid this season overall.

Lastly, I feel like ML has gotten more conservative this year. When Love was throwing INT's early in the season, I feel like ML pulled him in and now Jordan is a little afraid to let it loose. Love looked frustrated yesterday and I am not sure it was due to the Vikings D. They have to right this in the next two weeks for us to have a shot in the playoffs. I think we have to be balanced with Jacobs but we also have to let Love be Love and let it loose a little bit.

I'm interested to hear all your thoughts.

Last thing. I get very frustrated with ML not taking the points on the road. In the playoffs playing on the road, he has to do this unless it is late in the game and you need a TD. Take the FG.

I understand I just said ML has been more conservative but this is the one area that I think you always have to take the points. At home, it's different. You have the crowd and momentum can change quickly in your favor but on the road points are hard to come by. Once again the Packers lose by 2 and the FG is a big factor. Also, the crappy neutral zone call by the refs....

I get frustrated with this WR group, because they're talented but they don't seem to be detail oriented, and more often than not they come up small when they just need to make a damn play. Perfect example was the game sealing pass from the Vikings. Darnold floats a pretty ugly ball to a running back, and that running back turns around behind him and makes a shoe string catch. That's a better catch than anyone not named Watson or Kraft have made for GB all year. And he's a running back! Just make a damn play on an imperfect ball, no excuses. I'm seeing all sorts of clips this morning of incompletions by GB where receivers slipped on their route, or hesitated, or the ball hit their hands and it's incomplete. I'm tired of demanding perfection from everyone else in order for these guys to do their jobs. Make a play for your QB! I feel like it's the same thing as last year. Step up for each other.

Maybe I or we are all overthinking the group. Reed, Watson, Tucker Kraft - day 2 picks. Doubs, Wicks - mid Day 3 picks. Melton, Heath - UDFA. Maybe it's no surprise that the top three are all the ones you'd want back on the team, and everyone else can go, but the team is relying heavily on those bottom 4 guys.

And maybe it's all well and good to have fun celebrating having the youngest team in the league every year, but these issues are part of a learning and maturing process, and GB is taking those lumps in big games against skilled, veteran opponents.
