2021 projected tendersHow much cap charge is 1st round tender compared to 2nd round tender?
I like the idea of an extension over a 1st or 2nd round tender.Based on what we had been seeing at TE over the last few years, and the game that Tonyan is bringing to the position, the difference between the first and second round tender tells me you go with the #1. If you're going to lose him to someone, at least let's make sure we can get the best possible pick possible. At this point, $1.4 mill against the cap is chicken feed by comparison.
Better yet, sign him to a 5 year deal where it's cap friendly over the first year, to eat up less money today, and is more easily offset from years ahead, where there will be more cap room.
Remember we have cap issues this year extending him might not be possible this season and might have to wait until next year when the cap goes up. A long term deal with prorated SB and base salary could be above the 1st or 2nd round tender tag.I like the idea of an extension over a 1st or 2nd round tender.
Lock him up long term NOW, so you aren't having to deal with it again next year when his asking price could be even more if he has another year like he did in 2020.
