Not saying the Packer brass did the right thing with drafting a QB in 2020 and then giving the impression they are moving on from Rodgers after the 2021 season, since we're all being speculative here, i think that when rodgers contract was negotiated, there was certainly talk about his desire to start and end his career with the packers. and i believe that murphy and gute blew smoke up his a$$ about how they wanted that too. and then - for whatever reason - it became apparent that it was just smoke and the the timeline had changed. you can say all you want about football being a business, but how many businesses get rid of their top performers when they are at the top of their game? it may be business, but it isn't good business at all.
and yes, i believe that rodgers has a right to feel betrayed.
The highest paid player thing is all media talk. He will never hit that AAVI think Rodgers will also want new deal in trade make him up there with Mahomes and such
You can always move money around to make it look big but him ever getting it are two different things. The highest paid player thing is all media talk. He will never hit that AAV
You can’t get it $45m avg. mathYou can always move money around to make it look big but him ever getting it are two different things.
What about adding dead yearsYou can’t get it $45m avg. math
That would require a total deal of about $230m. It just does not workWhat about adding dead years
At least they get him to 40That would require a total deal of about $230m. It just does not work
That’s $200m. The math and potential dead cap does not workAt least they get him to 40
some validity to what you've said. but in the two seasons played leading up to the draft of love, rodgers threw for 8,444 yards, 51 tds and 6 interceptions. he led the league in lowest interception % both seasons. his completion ratio was down a bit, but you have to remember who his receivers were. his second leading receiver for those two years was a 5th round rookie that many people on this site seem to despise for his unreliable route running and numerous drops. of course rodgers completion rate was going to suffer a little. i don't think there was any indication that rodgers was going to need to be replaced soon. i do think there was every indication that the packers needed a better #2 receiver though. Not saying the Packer brass did the right thing with drafting a QB in 2020 and then giving the impression they are moving on from Rodgers after the 2021 season,
BUT…….
Rodgers current extension began with the 2018 season.
For 2018-2019 he posted the lowest (non-injury season) TD productions of his career, as well as the 3rd and 4th lowest completion %’s of his career as well.
It could be speculated that they may have thought they needed a plan B at QB1 in case Rodgers production continued to erode, and so they took a chance on drafting a potential QB for the future.
