Rodgers Wants Out

since we're all being speculative here, i think that when rodgers contract was negotiated, there was certainly talk about his desire to start and end his career with the packers. and i believe that murphy and gute blew smoke up his a$$ about how they wanted that too. and then - for whatever reason - it became apparent that it was just smoke and the the timeline had changed. you can say all you want about football being a business, but how many businesses get rid of their top performers when they are at the top of their game? it may be business, but it isn't good business at all.

and yes, i believe that rodgers has a right to feel betrayed.
Not saying the Packer brass did the right thing with drafting a QB in 2020 and then giving the impression they are moving on from Rodgers after the 2021 season,
BUT…….
Rodgers current extension began with the 2018 season.
For 2018-2019 he posted the lowest (non-injury season) TD productions of his career, as well as the 3rd and 4th lowest completion %’s of his career as well.

It could be speculated that they may have thought they needed a plan B at QB1 in case Rodgers production continued to erode, and so they took a chance on drafting a potential QB for the future.

some validity to what you've said. but in the two seasons played leading up to the draft of love, rodgers threw for 8,444 yards, 51 tds and 6 interceptions. he led the league in lowest interception % both seasons. his completion ratio was down a bit, but you have to remember who his receivers were. his second leading receiver for those two years was a 5th round rookie that many people on this site seem to despise for his unreliable route running and numerous drops. of course rodgers completion rate was going to suffer a little. i don't think there was any indication that rodgers was going to need to be replaced soon. i do think there was every indication that the packers needed a better #2 receiver though.

anyway, you and i are just repeating the same old arguments that have been made since the beginning of the thread. i get what you are saying and i hope you can see where i'm coming from. i'll be glad when this whole saga comes to an end - one way or another. i do think rodgers could come back and play one more year. i doubt very much that it would be another mvp season. it is rare that the same player gets the mvp award two seasons in a row. but hopefully he will play at a high enough level that the packers will have multiple trade partners to choose from.
