If they get a mega offer and refuse to trade him because they go one year run it's stupid. Now if the offers are just lowballs then yeah I can see them saying might as well keep him for one more year and see if we get that offer next year then.
I think the party line is we are not trading him and we are not open for business

Again, I just disagree. They care about winning, I think that's getting lost here. There's legacy stuff and financial stuff on the line for everyone involved, their window is right now and I think that means something to them. The way they see it, like many musical artists from back in the day who were obligated to make X amount of albums per their contract with the record label, Rodgers owes them this year. He knew it when he signed the deal, they knew it, hell people on this board immediately looked at the structure and knew it, and just because he's trying a power move a year early doesnt mean they're about to blow it up.

And addressing Pack's last comment - I think it's more than just a party line. If there was any actual wiggle room it would've leaked. Either from the GB side or the other team's side.

Mega offers? For what a 38 yr old QB who just pitched a fit? A 2nd and a 4th for Jones should tell you a lot. If you get a first and a third for him you say Thank you and move on.

Disagree they care about winning long-term but they really really care about being solvent and keeping the front office band together. The line in the sand routine is risky in that you believe he can continue to play at an MVP level at 38... won't get injured and that your team stays healthy and lucky.

At the end of the day the odds are not stacked in GB and Rodger's favor here, If we are here talking about this in 2 years and GB got a 3rd or less for him or he walked away then they failed badly. You trade the asset when it's worth the most not hang on to it to prove a point while gambling that you're going to get lucky for a third season... that's really the smart move here. Anything else is Micky mouse front office crap.sb(rant)imho(

If this had all come to a head about 6 weeks before the draft, I wonder what teams would have offered up to get him at that point? I'd guess that would have been best bang for the buck as far as the Packers are concerned, long term, but the cap impact would have been staggering. I'm going to make a guess here, but I think a #1 & #3 this year, and a #1 next year, assuming it was in the 12 on down range. If it was a top 10 pick, probably a #1 this year, and a #4 this year as well.

I think that's a lot to pay for a QB who has a short shelf life. It reminds me of the Hadl trade!

Packers saw what Stafford got and want equal or better value IMO.

To those who don't remember Hadl, he was a 34 year old QB with the Chargers. Dan Devine and the Packers game up their first 3 picks in the next draft plus the first two the following year to get a washed up QB. Second worst trade in football history. Nobody can beat the Herschel Walker trade. That was pure disaster!
