because which players are going to want to play for a team that is stuck in the 70s? they had a chance, bringing in matt lafleur to establish themselves as a whole new organization - on the cutting edge. they could have made green bay a place that players wanted to play - despite all the socio-political negatives.

As for the "evolution of sports business" they have all their $$$ in the stuff around Lambeau and doing other games and events to keep $$ flowing. All The TV revenue and other shared revenue streams are factored in, don't kid yourself. It's a business and they have a long-term plan. Will it work out? We shall see. But the direction has already been set in motion.

If I can give this organization credit on one level it’s how to operate the business side of the organization. While I’m not sold that Titletown is a cash cow, it’s still a nice revenue stream and cash flow is always in line with cap. As we have discussed on another topic living in GB & Wisconsin is an acquired taste. Same with playing professional football there. It’s always been a hard sell always will be. Just look at how many stick in the off season. Winning solves a lot of that. I don’t see a repeat of the 70’s. It’s not the same business model

Who's to say GB did not let Rodgers give his advice and it's Rodgers who just stopped when they would not do what he suggested. Do you listen to an employee when they have a suggestion? Sure. But you can't let the employees run the place.

Yeah not sure if we're appreciating here just how unique Green Bay is as the location of a professional sports team. NFL teams started out in the midwest, the powerhouse of the country at the time. It was once an important industrial city, but it's unique in pro sports in that it's the only city that has a pro team that was also never a cultural, business or financial center as well as industrial. Industry faded, economics changed but the team remains. It's a good thing for the league to still have that connection, its a feather in their cap IMO and not just because I'm a fan, but because slowly but steadily the league has been chasing teams out of these smaller cities and moving south and west.

All that said, and maybe in light of the above, the experience is about the team and the history of the team. If you want bullet points outside of football to attract people, it can't compete with any place else. Some guys it's going to have an appeal, most others will see it as taking a job in a non-ideal location for 3-5 years while they get paid top dollar. And that's ok! It's not like they're getting shipped to live in Camden NJ or some other crap hole, it's a nice place, it's quiet, can start a family there, yes it's a fishbowl but all the German ancestry means people are naturally standoffish so it isn't too bad.

Anyway, my . The team gets a big fat check from TV deals every year, nothing wrong with having to use it on players.

I think our front office are dumbasses for not communicating with Rodgers. I don't believe they had to follow his advice, but I think they should have talked through a lot of things with Rodgers. For goodness sake, the Vikings talked to Cousins.

I think Rodgers will be traded. I doubt we get a first - didn't we only got a 3d for Favre? The front office screwed this up. If you're going to play hardball be brave and do it. We could have had either the 49ers 3d pick or the Broncos 9th pick - possibly many more. Dumbass pride in the Front Office caused this.

If the Packers dont' get a 1st you don't trade Rodgers the offer of a the 49ers 3rd overall was a proven lie 49ers and Packers both said no offer was ever made. Same with Denver they never called either on draft night.
