What does the roster look like next year?

Let me start with this, the season is far from over. I’m fully expecting us to sit everyone next week to prepare for the Bears in the playoffs. This post isn’t a “The sky is falling… season is over”. Just looking to who might not be in the green and gold next year. List is in order of most likely to least. Curious what your thoughts are. Not sure about cuts or trades, just people I think will be gone.

  1. Rashan Gary - I liked him, but he just seems to give no effort out there. Yesterday it was cool to see him finally chase the qb, but was then gone most the game. He’s just not lived up to the contract and is just expensive LVN right now.
  2. Nate Hobbs - Too injured too often. I think I can recall one time this year he has made a play.
  3. Aaron Banks or Elgton Jenkins - I think one of them is gone next year, but not both. Same reason for both. Injuries and high salary. I’m leaning towards Banks due to the contract, but wouldn’t be surprised if they let Jenkins go.
  4. Josh Jacobs - Recent games have me wondering if he has anything left. I know he’s been dealing with injuries, but if MarShawn Lloyd is healthy and we can resign Emmanuel Wilson, I could see Jacobs as a cap casualty.
  5. Quay Walker - I think he is likely to be back, but deserves to be on the list. I don’t know what the contract looks like for him. I could see a team outbidding us. With us turning down his fifth year, he’s unrestricted and we may lose him.
  6. Romeo Doubs - I think he will be back, but it is kind of the same situation as Quay. Some team might out pay us. He’s a tough read since he’s hit and cold about his future with us. I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t keep him, but if he is willing to take WR3 money, he will be with us.
  7. Keisean Nixon - He has had a down year and I could see us trying to get his contract restructured, but if he holds firm, I could see a move from him. We are overpaying our secondary for not performing that great. This may be a move like Jaire.
I’m not including non-starters or special teams. I doubt we keep Willis or McManus, but I wanted to keep things to more starters/higher play time players. I could also see us losing Hafley (even though I think it’s not this offseason, but the next one) and Bisaccia.

Who do you think is gone? I do want to say, I don’t want to lose most of these people. In fact, outside the top three, I don’t want to lose any of them. I just think this is likely next year.

Who I expect to be gone:

  • Doubs - too full of a room and Golden/Williams will take his snaps
  • Jenkins - he was already a cap casualty and hasn’t played up to what we’re used to seeing
  • Gary - I think he’s going to get cut, but I’d take a day 3 pick or anything. He's shown nothing this year.
50/50 depending on money; Quay. He’s played well and he’s been good since mid-last season. If he’s too expensive, we may just let him walk and slide in Hopper/Cooper with McDuffie as the 3rd LB.

I expect Josh Jacobs to be on this team; he is injured, and the gap between him and Brooks/Wilson is massive. If the OL could run block to save their life, Jacobs would be more productive; he’s getting contacted at/behind the LOS.

Don't think Hobbs and Banks will be cut. You won't find any better replacement for what the dead cap hits to keep them so they will be given chance to rebound in 2026.

Jenkins 100% gone though. 30 years old GB will not want to invest in him longer.

Jacobs is a top 5 RB still. The guy had a injury and played behind a bottom 5 offense. Prime Barry Sanders would have sucked behind this OL. Lloyd is injury prone and I question if he even makes the roster. Wilson and Brooks are decent backups not starters.

Walker 50/50 on he's back or not. He gets a big offer from another team GB won't match it.

Nixon GB will keep him just since his contract is cheap even if he's treated as a number 3 CB. but GB needs to improve on him and not rely on him as a CB1 or CB2.

Doubs 100% he's gone GB made that clear with no contract talks to him.

Rashan is done. Not even being reactionary. He is a Captain and is putting out minimal effort in gotta have it games without Parsons. See if a team will take him for a 6th and get cap back. Use that money to keep Enagbare and LVN (5th year).
Hobbs is probably back, hoping a healthy offseason can do him some good, and is at least decent nickel depth.

Banks is fine. Overpaid but fine. He will be back and again, a healthy offseason plus hopefully some consistency will keep him as a C-tier decent starter. Elgton is gone, easily. You don’t keep him after how bad he was at C, his 20mil in savings, and a bad injury for a lineman, cut him and use the money to resign Rhyan.

Jacobs is back. The run blocking is bottom 5 in the league and he still has 800+ yards. He’s been hurt and has nothing to work with. When he does make plays (see 40-yard TD in DENVER), he’s been great. Retool the line, get a new OL Coach in there, and draft his replacement on day 3.
Willis is gone, no doubt. Quay gets resigned

Interesting thread.

Starters I see gone - R.Walker, Jenkins, Doubs, Gary. QWalker is a maybe along with Hobbs. With Hobbs though there isn't much savings so probably not worth cutting. Same reason I'm keeping Banks plus we are likely losing two o-linemen already. I'm also thinking I find a way to keep Quay unless the money gets nuts.

Hopefully Doubs and Rasheed Walker sign new contracts that get the Pack a couple of decent comp. picks in '27.

Gary/Jenkins - as good as gone
Willis/Walker - will be gone so we can get a comp pick
Doubs/Wicks - likely get more money elsewhere than we'd want to pay them, gone for comp picks
Walker/Enagbare/Rhyan - possibly come back depending on market, but could go

Hobbs/Jacobs - not sure it's even worth considering that they'd be gone. Maybe hobbs gets a restructure

Much of this depends on the contracts that guys like Willis, Walker, Doubs, Rhyan get and the compensatory pick formula. My guess is they bring back Quay and Enagbare, let Rhyan go.

Kinda crazy you don’t have Rasheed on this list he’s 100% gone with Morgan replacing him at LT next season.

They are absolutely not getting rid of Hobbs and Banks after 1 season, the front office isn’t that aggressive after handing out a contract of that size.

Jenkins is gone, barring a crazy contract restructure

Doubs is for sure out, we have a crowded receiver room as is

Gary is out unless he restructures like crazy.

The only other ones I could see as possibilities are Enagbare, Rhyann, and Quay. I think we sign 1 out of 3 for sure but probably depends on how much they get on the market.

100% my thoughts as well. Only wanted to add in here, and not to be pedantic or anything, but Jenkins and Gary are both much more likely flat out gone than restructure because a restructure would still force them to kick the can on their cap hits well past the point when the team would want them. The cap relief in 2026-27 is worth more than the likely contributions from either of them in that time span.

The only big question is Quay, and at this point it's the last game of the regular season and it's still a question... and I think that probably provides the answer of whether or not to bring him back.

  1. Rashan Gary - Agree he is gone.
  2. Nate Hobbs - Agree he's not worth keeping.
  3. Aaron Banks or Elgton Jenkins - I could see us keeping both of them given our shakiness at OL throughout season. But I think Jenkins is gone.
  4. Josh Jacobs - Lloyd has already shown he cannot be relied on as a weekly RB1. Jacobs is not easily replaced. If we move on from him it's because we are bringing in someone else and there won't be much available on the RB market.
  5. Quay Walker - I'll be surprised if we don't find a way to keep him but could see us moving on if he demands too much. He hasn't exactly had an all pro season, but he's a veteran leader in the locker room.
  6. Romeo Doubs - No reason to keep Doubs for what he will cost. We have Watson for 1 more year and if he stays healthy he's going to be expensive. Reed, Golden, Wicks, Kraft are all playing great and improving. Doubs is gone.
  7. Keisean Nixon - If he restructures he stays but god help us if he is still our CB1 next year.
