I would have to trade down if I want a safety I am just not sure there might be one worth taking at 25 and I just don't want to reach for one.

For whatever it's worth, my understanding of DeJean's injury is that it's not a knee, it was a broken fibula further down his leg (it's referred to most places as a lower leg injury). Reading between the lines, it sounds like there was the broken bone plus ligament damage maybe around the ankle or foot (similar to Stokes?) - last part is my assumption because I think bone actually heals faster than tendons and ligaments.

If it was just a bone it wouldn't bother me at all, it's the other stuff that does kinda freak me out.

Interesting you say that about Rakestraw. I'm not really seeing that. The PFF and Fanspeak sims never have him available at #41 unless maybe the default settings get changed. DraftBuzz and the above sim I used do seem to have him available at #41 pretty regularly. Daniel Jeramiah at NFL Network has him going #22. About half the guys at HuddleReport have him going in Rd1.

That said, both guys at Walterfootball have him going in Rd3 so opinions are divided. There's a chance he's there at 41, but for me it seems like a pretty slim chance unless he doesn't test well or something comes out on his medicals. I could be wrong.

it will be interesting to see how much these draft simulators change after the underwear olympics.

I think for most part teams top 100 draft boards are pretty much set. I have heard teams don't care much about how a player test at the combine because it's all scripted. It's more what a team might get from a guy in the 15 minutes they get to interview him or if something medical comes up when they take their physicals. I think now at combine if a guy who was thought of a late round pick or UDFA blows up teams might take a second look at him.

The original intent of the combine was the medical aspect. Everything else is just fluff for media…

PRIORITY #1 needs to be safety, Our DC wants a single high look and no one on this roster can play single high. Need 2 of those guys BEFORE you draft a corner.

I couldn't agree more. That's why I mentioned much earlier that getting two guys to play back there is essential. It's also why I'd like to see a little size to go with speed, plus have guys who can read what's happening in front of them, not have to wait and react after something has happened.

If possible, I'd like to have them sign a higher priced free agent, probably a free safety, and get a top ranked player in the draft as well. I'd like to see some veteran leadership back there. Kind of like what Amos offered in the system before he was let go. A player who knows what's expected, in the new concepts would be a huge blessing.

Question for Mark, and anyone else who has a solid defensive background:

I know it would cost a lot, but would Antoine Winfield, Jr, be a good grab if the Buccaneers don't put a franchise tag on him? He's only about 25, and has the possibility of being a long range fix if he fits the system.

I know it would cost a lot, but would Antoine Winfield, Jr, be a good grab if the Buccaneers don't put a franchise tag on him? He's only about 25, and has the possibility of being a long range fix if he fits the system.

I don't think GB can afford him even if TB does not tag him. He would be #1 safety on the FA market and to many teams with deeper FA pockets who could to afford to overpay to get him. I think FA like a Geno Stone is going to be in GB's price range.

I dunno. I just think that the Packers need to adjust to the reality that a leader like that will get some big bucks. They've put an awful lot into other baskets, and at his age, he could be a steady influence for several runs at the big prize. Even if it was a heavily back loaded contract, which would be difficult swallowing in 5 years, it's better than going bargain basement and continuing to be an "also-ran." Just my opinion though.

I think we need to revisit the mantra that was in the organization when they decided to bring in Charles Woodson. It was a decision that paid huge dividends.

just read they are tagging him....however if not it would be worth considering for sure.
