Is The Packers OL Better?

I got the impression that he played well because he immediately filled in at LT as a 4th round rookie and played so well that he displaced Bryan Bulaga back to RT even when Bulaga was healthy again. And bear in mind with those 2013 stats his rookie year, half the year he was blocking for Seneca Wallace, Scott Tolzien and Matt Flynn - all a far cry from Aaron Rodgers, who busted his collarbone mid season (I believe it was Don Barclay over on the right who missed the block that led to Rodgers' injury against the Bears). I fully agree about his run blocking, his play strength was always a weak point and even in 2020 when he made All-pro he was guilty of missed blocks out in space, clear as day. I'm not crappng on the guy and I love him and have gone to bat for him but frankly he's probably a little overrated as an overall LT.

Anyway I just don't see a Cole Van Lanen comparison. Different build, different body type, different strengths and weaknesses. We are not set really at either OG position though we have a lot of competition, I would love to see him step up there.
I'm not disagreeing in believing he played fairly well. I thought so too. I stated that most fans didn't see a high side for him, just saw him as a guy struggling, who didn't belong there. They did not see the potential.

I see that kind of potential with Van Lanen, but he has to prove it. He's a better lineman than some people think. Probably not suited to left tackle, but he might be an option until Bakh is back, nothing more. After that, might be able to shift over and play right tackle, or a guard position. Maybe never a starter, but at least a productive back up. His level of play last year reminded me of the level that we saw from Tauscher in year one. He looked like he didn't belong to most people, but he kept improving, and eventually rounded into a decent right tackle.

Tauscher never did really come back from that injury. He lost mobility, and didn't seem to have the lower body strength he needed to regain his form. Sometimes it just never happens the way you want. I actually worry about that with Bakh to be honest. Will he come back and be the guy he was, before the injury? It's hard to tell. I just don't think he'll be nearly as good. But, I have my fingers crossed.

If they want to play him at OT then why not put him at RT to start with and use Nyjman at LT.
Nyjman has already proved he can play there if needed.

And if Bak is good to go, then all this is mute.

I am not sold on Nyiman being able to handle the top pass rushers on Rodgers blindside. I rather play at 75% Bak at LT

JMHO, but if Bak is at 75% I would hope they don’t play him.
What you going to do with him though? Huge dead cap and no one is going to trade for him. Might as well play him get what you can out of him this year then cut him after the season.

From Spotrac. Bakh's contract. It's enough to choke a horse. He's almost a must keep, even if you use him as a door stop for the next two years. His salary is going to be more than most of the QBs in the NFL. This is insane!

Yes does seem he's in GB until after 2023 unless he is such a shell of his former self GB does just say screw it take the $23 million dead cap hit just to save 6 million for 2023.

Bak has not really played extended football for a year and a half. And it will be a minimum of 1 year and 8 months or even 1 year and 10 months. It takes a year of playing full time to get back up to speed sometimes. It could be 2023 before he gets back to 100% and then his whole contract has been wasted, IMO.

It's very possible this will be what happens. It points out the problem with large contracts.
