Good for Mertz. How long will it be before the players start turning on the individuals getting big pay days while they sit there without getting a new pair of sweat socks?

Allen isn't the brains behind his charity game. It's a gimmick, and will generate money for charity, but he and his buddies who are part of it will be paid for their signatures on objects, just like the advertisement says. They'll have no liability for anything. It's just his name being used to promote it. All quite legal in that "charity" bit we're seeing down here in Texas. These players owe a few hours of charity work, and usage of their name for promotions, and they get paid.

I just hope Allen had some professional tax advisors guiding him on this. Unless it’s a 501C the tax implications might make it a zero sum game. As to the “boosters” with greasy palms, that’s been around for decades.

I would not bet on that to be honest. Devil is in the details. A charity especially not for profit might not be a windfall
