NIL - Texas style

Though back in the 70s did they get much more then free meals maybe $100 hand shanke if htat much?

My GF lived in Cobeen Hall which was directly across the street form the players dorm. We would see Tatum and Whitehead daily. Butch Lee wound ref out pick up games next to the dorm. Let’s just say the evidence was in plain sight
My no comment was supportive of what you said. I knew three of Al's boys personally back in the day. Knew them as friends, shared beers, and played softball together. I'd never divulge any of what was said to me, or I saw. Things were what they were, just like in Madison, where I had friends playing as well. What happened there, like Marquette, was nothing compared to what was happening at other schools. They were Mother Theresa compared to them.

Yep. And that’s what I was getting at speaking about NIL. In many ways it was worse then. The money and slush money thrown around by AAU made NIL money look like romper room.

I remember the stories in Madison, some comical some sad. Was not rampant but yeah it happened.

As a side note I was a Journalism major in college. I did my paper on the dark side of college recruiting. I sent Hank Raymond’s a note and he was kind enough to send me NCAA rules and guidelines to help. Ironically I used a reference to Marquette and some “suspicious activity” in my paper while at UW.

Well today it does seem worse with their no rules right now it's a wild wild west anything goes at the moment.
