B1G Media Rights Deal

From SI…..notable is that looks like there are escalator clauses so yeah they found a way to Jack up the price if/ when ND joins the party.

  • Peacock, which won the direct-to-consumer part of the deal, will have eight football games per season for the length of the contract. It also will show 32 men’s basketball games in 2023–24 (20 of them conference matchups) and 47 thereafter (32 league contests). That will include an opening-night doubleheader from the men’s tournament. On the women’s side, Peacock will stream 30 games a season, 20 of which are conference play. Peacock also is a likely destination for a significant amount of Olympic sports coverage as part of a tie-in with NBC’s status as the American rights-holder for the Summer and Winter Olympics.

NBC press release

The musical chairs of media providers is creating a circus of which providers we need to use to get our games. At what point do people say; "Screw it! I'm not adding more services! I'm cutting the cable!"

As we already know, it's happening in a lot of areas. As an example, down here in Austin, TX, as an example. There are nearly 50 channels available over the airwaves, I no longer want cable. As far as additional viewing, like sports, I'll just add one package at the most to my phone, and cast it to my TV if I decide I want to watch a game.

Just my opinion, but I believe it will eventually lead to dramatic erosion in fan bases.

Many cable channels we watch I can’t get over the air and once I start layering on SVOD like Peacock or Paramount or Apple it’s getting close to basic cable.

What’s going to happen is a consolation of streaming services and also adding in pay tiers like Netflix just did. They are all bleeding money right now and churn is a major issue

Fan bases will be fine since distribution will increase

No shock there ND brings value so pay more if ND joins

Not just ND but if they come to the party (not anytime soon ) one more joins
Could be couple years as we have heard B1G won't make a move to add any more until ND makes their move

Don’t take that to the bank. The conference won’t wait 10 years to expand
