So free agency is less then a month away. The Packers have some money to spend but not huge amounts like some teams. I would like to see them sign one pass rusher. To me two guys to look at who likely won't be the most expensive guys to go after but would be either Ravens Da'Zarius Smith or Redskins Preston Smith. I think both are upgrades to over what we have had with Clay Matthews the last few years. Both might come in around the the 8-10 million range maybe a bit more just do the fact the salary cap keeps going up and there is always a lack of decent pass rushers on the free agent market. Beyond that I might consider bringing back Kendricks if he comes cheap on a 1-2 year deal. If not look maybe at a guy like Charles Clay on that 1-2 year deal until you feel you have a rookie that the team should draft ready. OL does not seem ever to have much out there in FA and might be able to find one or two ok backup level guys but that might be it. Safety seems deep in free agency and could be able to find one or two decent players there that would not be very expensive if you choose not to get one early in the draft. Beyond that I can't see the team being major players in free agency for other guys and using cash to lock up players to extended deals.

OLB - Preston Smith and Shaquil Barrett
S - Adrian Amos

If this was who they got in FA, (IMO) it would open up a lot of option with first 3 picks. DL, TE, OL, S, ILB could all be in play and they could wait until middle rounds (4th and 5th) to add another OLB.

CHI may be vulnerable to losing more than a couple starters in FA this year. They are only $7.3M under the cap at the moment. Mack, Robinson, and Fuller account for $50M+ in cap space this year. After signing Bobby Massie recently the have 14 UFA's that may walk in agency, of which Safety (Amos) and CB (Callahan) are both starters.

Bears went all in on mack and its gonna hurt them in the next few yrs.

Amos would be good. Phillips also but i think he stays with the chargers. Id even kick the tires on thomas. Dude isnt youmg but was still the best in the game before getting hurt. He could be hungry.

There are a few guards that would be an upgrade but i dont want to break the bamk there.
Henry anderson would be a nice piece on the dl. I dont see him gettimg paid big money but hes a really good 5tech

I usually spend way more time on the draft than FA, just because FA has never been a factor in GB. I probably need to think about it more now that BG is in charge. I have looked around a little.

I think safety is a good position to target in FA. There are a number of decent options AND there could be a soft market. Doesn't seem like safety is a position of need for a lot of teams. I was looking at Tre Boston as an option. He had a hard time finding a deal last spring. Finally signed a cheap deal with Arizona and according to PFF had a pretty solid year. Seems like a guy that would be a decent option to play single high safety which is the spot I see as most needed right now after OLB. I don't think he'll be quite as cheap as last year but could be an affordable, youngish option for 2-3 years until they can break in a young draft choice.

I agree Amos could be that guy as well, but I really wonder where the market will go for him. It's not like there are no teams needing safety and I suspect the top few could see some pretty rich deals. Not sure if the Packers are willing to go there. Now the good thing about getting Amos on a big-buck, longer term deal is that you really don't have to spend any draft capital other than a later "depth" type of pick. He likely fixes that spot for 5 years or more.

Forgot to mention RB in FA.
It’s one of the more “affordable” positions to land as a FA.
IMO, Packers may consider keeping 4 RB’s and a FB.
Picking up a RB in FA and drafting one after the 4th round might be a good idea.
FA’s that come to mind are Tevin Coleman, Cameron Artis-Payne, CJ Anderson, and Mike Davis (my fav).

FA I am not looking at RB at all Jones and Williams are decent enough and rather take a late to UDFA to fill in as a 3rd back.

Only reason I bring it up is that ML wants his offense to give the "illusion of being complex", which could mean seeing a lot of "12" personnel packages with the intentions of actually running the ball more than we have seen in quite some time. That would require a deeper field of talent at RB especially since we have seen Jones finish each of his first 2 seasons on IR.

Matt LaFluer

Asked about his offense, LaFluer leads with being predicated on the zone running scheme and talks "illusion of complexity"

Tevin Coleman rookie season in Atlanta was also Matt LaFluer's first year in Atlanta, he might be wanted for his ability to operate in the new system.

Coleman might be top RB on market he will get paid. I think TB could go after him hard.
