Packers known interest thread

When I read some of the things the Packers are doing, in regards to the upcoming draft, it's like they're looking to the middle rounds to add help. I found that curious considering they have two first round picks. They also have a pair in the 4th, and a pair in the 6th. If it means they intend trading up, using both first rounders or trading down, using one, I can't tell, but it's almost as if they we gearing up for something other than what's presently on the board as they stand.

This new hierarchy just might be planning on pulling the trigger on a deal that could make them a big player in the depth market.

Then there's trades. Players they could retain being traded with the other team having a "deal in place" to insure they get them, other than through free agency, which could be costly. Don't count it out. This is going to be an interesting situation.

The majority of combine and AS Game interviews are for mid round guys or later as you look to UDFA's. The board is basically done with tweaks and due diligence / background is done or being done. And many of these guys with the exception of Senior Bowl are lower slotted guys....not reading too much into it

Same play book TT used over the years, nothing but Crickets on first two days players of the draft and the site visits will all be FA type that the pack are trying to get a jump on post draft.

I think you're missing what I'm talking about. Only one guy in that entire mix is someone the Packers might even think about drafting, or signing UFDA, after the draft. They are throwing out low level guys as if they were "interested in them." Don't go by who they interview. Go by the people they didn't interview, at least formally. There's nothing that says they didn't eavesdrop on players talking to each other, or talk to them in non-interview situations.

The only guy I see them having some interest in would be Cody Thompson, who has the body type of Nelson. I don't know how well he uses his body, or hands, or even his speed, but I see strength and physical characteristics that interest me. Beyond that? I don't know.

Don't read what they did. Read what they didn't do, then figure out what it could mean. They aren't going to announce in headlines their intent.

Of course I could be wrong, but over the course of a lot of years, I've been right more than I was wrong, and I put a helluva lot of felons behind bars by knowing how to look past dialogue and what you see when people are watching.

One of my favorite things was to tell a guy I was interrogating that they had a tell, and I knew when they were lying. Of course sometimes I didn't see one. But, because they thought I did, they'd make changes in how they handled questions to insure the tell was gone. That's when they'd telegraph what the tell was, and what the new one was.

Believe what you want. I don't intend belaboring the point. In the end, it's just like the Chargers and the Raiders. I said from early on, exactly what was going to happen, and all the talk that was out there, and "facts" being presented showed only one direction this whole thing could/would go. It was the path not spoken of, because it would lead to acceptance of gambling on the periphery of the game, and whatever anyone wants to believe, the owners in the NFL saw billions of additional dollars out there for them if they welcomed the bettors in.

Who they interviewed at Senior Bowl was a mirror image of what Thompson did. Small school kids or mid to late round picks. Most background on kids in day 1 or day 2 is complete. Now what happens at the combine may change things.

Most of what you hear going forward is smoke. I don’t see anything usual here. Now what might signal things is how they deal with Graham, Perry. Williams as examples

GB needs a lot of help at a lot of areas. And that includes depth guys. Which is what it seems they spoke to at Senior Bowl.

They have a chance to talk to the big names at Combine.

Agree with Pack here. Covering Packer drafts since 80's, the change came about with Wolf. Wolf was a former naval intelligence, started the mis direction and smoke on what players were targets. Most teams do this now days at least at the top of the draft. But Wolf's ways have been instilled and passed down over the years.

Frankly if your board isn't already set up, you don't belong scouting or being GM. Of course some flexibility on that board as character issues come out or maybe workout numbers, but it's not as drastic of a change on a team's board as it is on the online draft sites big boards. Workouts are like a double check against what a team's scout already has.

The one thing that can make a player drop is failed drug tests.
