Post Game: San Francisco defeats GB 37-8

Well, then we owe that whether we get three first round picks or not.

If Rodgers is gonna go 104 yards and be 0-13 on third down (Boyle was 1 for 2) would you rather have 104/0-13 and a bunch of first round picks? Since we owe the $53 no matter what anyway, it's really neither here nor there.
And how many other games did 12 have that stat line ? Enquiring minds want to know. Yeah I’ll take Rodgers any day of the week and no chance in hell anyone gives up 3 #1’s. It’s not that we “owe” him $53 m it’s how the cap rules work. Again a quick read of the CBA would be worthwhile

Aaron has played ok at times, especially when Davante was out. Since then he's been reverting to McCarthy Ball, complete with offensive lulls.

The issue is so many times his 1st 2nd and 3rd option are covered and he’s forced to play hero ball like it or not. He’s played better than ok, without him this team is 3-8 not 8-3

I've began to wonder at times if they've dialed up plays where only Adams is the target, or he focuses on him too long as the #1 target, and is late making his reads. Just curious, because it seems like he's holding too long on the first option. Just my observation that it could be a problem. Just an observation, no hard facts.

The later of your point makes sense. As far as a single route don’t think so

Reality check people. It's hard to switch schemes in such a short time. Expecting Arod to all of a sudden expertly run a new scheme is a little unreasonable. Muscle memory etc takes hold in the moment and he reverts back to the way he's used to playing.

Second it was never going to be a one off-season turnaround ... This is a multi year fix. Like 2-3.

Everyone should be thrilled the team is where it's at ... The Packers were never going to keep up with the top teams this year. It's not really anyone's fault right now. The team is what it is. There are big holes and areas for improvement. GB is in the middle of a major rebuild/rescheme. It takes time.

This game looks cosmetically worse than it was.

Then again none of our wins were really convincing either.

I'm glad I got to spend a few hours this morning in a cold deer stand in a Wolf River backwater swamp to clear my head after that debacle last night. IMO they have looked like an 8-8/9-7 team masquerading as an 11-5 (or better?) team. They are winning more than I thought they would but they just don't look like a premier team to me. They have some premier moments, but especially on defense, they have looked no better than average.

I think AR is still "part" of the problem. Yes, there are problems with separation by the WRs and TEs but there seem to be open players underneath at times and AR still seems bound and determined to hold the ball too often and wait for someone open deeper. Not sure that the return of Davante hasn't made it worse. AR seems to want to force the ball to him and others at times. AR is part of the problem and ML needs to figure out how to rein him in and follow the plan.

I continue to maintain that we lack the right kinds of pass catchers. Allison is one example. There were a pair of first half plays where he caught the ball in stride but was taken down quickly because he simply does not have the quicks/speed to make guys miss in small spaces and make that part of ML's game plan work. We need help at that position. MVS/EQ/Kumerow/Lazard are worth further looks, but as I've said before, IMO they are all just "OK" complementary pieces not consistent, go-to chain movers.

TE is kind of a focal point position for the Packers. They don't have one that makes a difference. They can't cover opposing TE's to save their lives. Unless they see something from Tonyan or Sternberger in the last 5 games they may need to get another one - hopefully a FA rather than another rookie. They also need to find someone who can cover a TE - draft one early.

I'm moving DL up in order of importance this spring. Lowrey, Clark and Lancaster last night - underwhelming. Clark might a top level guy but the others not so much. A switch to the 4-3 would still leave us with this underwhelming group. I'm not against going 4-3 but if we do there are still holes to fill there.

Lastly, I don't know if scheme or players are the problem on defense but ML needs to get it straight with MM and BG that if this defense continues to crap the bed the rest of the way that he needs to have the right to dump MP and bring in a guy he feels can get the job done.

Rewatched the game. Here is what I saw:

First drive started well until Adams got stupid and got the 15 yard penalty. Way too may stupid penalties by the offense again.

AR did miss a check down to Graham(who was open) on the strip sack.

Aaron Jones missed at least 2 holes backside in the first two drives that would have been big gainers.

Allison dropped a huge first down pass on the second drive that would have gotten us to almost the 50 yard line.

AR did have Graham and Jones open underneath on a 3rd and 13 on our 3rd drive. Would we have gotten the first down? Most likely not but he should have checked down. Adams was open. It was just a good play by the 49ers CB.

We were throwing a decent amount of quick passes. The issue I have with them is that Allison got the bulk of them in the first half. Use MVS. At least he has some speed. Even Lazard. Allison looked stuck in the mud honestly.

On the drive where we went for it on 4th down AR did throw to Adams deep on 2nd down and had Lewis wide open in the middle. He was looking only at Adams on that one. That could have been a big play.

We ran the ball 28 times last night but here is my issue. We run the ball once and then pass twice or we pass on 1st down, run on 2nd, and pass again on 3rd. I realize down and distance determines that sometimes; however, we never seem to run the ball 2, 3, or 4 times in a row. Even when we are running it well.

Defense blew in the last 6 min of the first half. Gave up 13 points in 6 minutes. That was the game, right there. Although, I will say that Scott had two really crappy punts in a row that put the 49ers at the 40 and the 50 yard line.

Our WR's were covered 80% of the time. The 49ers took care of our WR's and held even the short passes in check. They are fast and tackle well. As most of us have said on here, we need a #2 WR and a TE that can stretch the field. Graham is not it.

Martinez absolutely blows. He cannot cover anyone. Campbell played the run better than him last night. No way I pay him even 5M at this point. Let him walk.

Conclusion

All phases again had their moments of crapping the bed. The 49ers are a dang good D and we got our butts whipped. Plain and simple. Our o-line was beaten bad. This team has improved but they cannot play with the big boys yet. We need another draft and maybe another FA.
