NIL - Texas style

I see so many things wrong with thinking the revenue stream will remain high for the top conferences, and be so little for lesser ones. I just wouldn't know where to start addressing it.

If hard pressed, I'd have to say that the people who follow the WAC, as an example, don't give a rip about what's happening in the SEC if they aren't part of the same program, and will no longer watch their games. They'll choose WAC games, and conferences that are equal to theirs, to watch. Since they will probably even be in different paid TV packages, they wouldn't bother with the big guys.

Just saying, I know I would do that. I already do in baseball. I don't give a rip about other teams, so just have the MLB package for the White Sox. I can read about the rest, don't give a damn about the rest.

I would also do the same thing with a Sunday Ticket offering that allowed me to pick the Packers. I also do this with the Bucks for my NBA package.
ESPN pays B1G & SEC significantly more than any other conference for TV rights. It’s not even close. B1G also has rights deal with FOX Now add in BTN (owned by Fox ) and SEC Network (owned by Disney). The WAC has a minor ESPN deal and also CBS Sports Network (cable) for example. Once the new BiG rights deal gets done in next 3-6 months each school will get a check for about $100m per year. Just like the NFL it’s media rights driven.

Oh I forgot the $600m+ for the CFP rights.
The WAC. This is significant re: revenue
Under the new agreement, all WAC home football games will be broadcast on ESPN platforms. Although it was not indicated, most of those contests, if not all, will likely be streamed via ESPN3 or ESPN+.

This paints a better picture. This is prior to new B1G deal with probably will include NBC

Excellent info. Thanks! It's easy to see where the money is going. I wonder how the imbalance based on competitiveness with NIL deals is going to change the landscape. I guess we'll have to wait and see on that one. I can see where the Big 5 would do all they can to insure they maintain their dominance. Who knows? They might even split into 6 conferences, and have their own run for a championship within their family, no outsiders allowed.

If a Power 5 break away could we see were everyone shares one big pot of money of revenue?

I’ve been pretty consistent that 3 maybe
4 “Super Conferences” emerge with P5 and some select G5 schools. Any playoff would be “exclusive” and would pull a significant rights fee. How the playoff would work is anyones guess, I would suspect some on campus rounds and bowls. The challenge will be getting University presidents to allow 13+ games to expand playoffs. They sure as hell won’t cut into conference games.

The challenge is how do you make a P5 system in football work with basketball. It’s almost impossible. Schools like Villanova, Marquette, St John’s need to be incorporated into some revenue stream. Some of these, well all of them actually are football + basketball as to TV rights. Especially the Field of 64

Now the gorilla in the room. The SEC & B1G would need equal or greater than their take today to get rights deals done. Would networks pay that plus a major increase to ACC , PAC 12 and Big 12 schools? It’s not a lock
