Official 2020 Packers Training Camp Thread

Thanks for post! Sounds like a lot of dropped passes out there. These guys need to hang onto the ball.

Camp Day 4 update :

General:

  • Full Pads Today
  • Reporters have been informed by the team that they are not allowed to report who is getting reps with the starters/2nd team, etc or which players are being used in certain packages. Also can't report if players are rotating among positions.
Not Practicing: LB Za'Darius Smith (Rest), TE Marcedes Lewis (Rest), WR Travis Fulgham (?), OL Travis Bruffy (?), LB Greg Roberts (COVID IR)

Injuries: DL Montravius Adams (Toe), RB Patrick Taylor (NFI), OL Simon Stepaniak (NFI), OL Yosh Nijman (PUP), LB Curtis Bolton (PUP), WR Devin Funchess (Opt-Out IR)

Offense:

  • David Bakhtiari is fully dressed and practicing.
  • Corey Linsley is fully dressed and practicing after missing yesterday.
  • Marcedes Lewis is not in pads today. Just an observer from the side in a cap.
  • Malik Turner has made two really nice catches in drill work on balls that were thrown ahead and behind him.
  • FB John Lovett is having a good start to camp. Really intriguing player.
  • Some confusion with the hand signals at the line and LaFleur pauses to use it as a coaching point. Making sure that his quarterbacks and wide receivers are on the same page - the assistant coaches focusing on coaching some of the whys behind it. Good coaching!
  • Linsley is back in team but Bakhtiari sitting outside first team period.
  • Tyler Ervin also continues his strong start to camp catching a sideline pass from Rodgers.
  • Bakhtiari not taking 11-on-11 reps. Alex Light in his place at LT.
  • Deep ball for Aaron Jones from Rodgers just beyond his fingertips. Jones had a step on Ramsey.
  • Davante Adams is back out here, pads still on and helmet in hand. Looks like he rolled (or nearly rolled) his ankle the way he’s explaining/showing it to Marcedes Lewis on the field.
  • The Rodgers and Kumerow connection is alive and well, a laser beating the coverage of Savage and Alexander on a deep corner route. Great route from Kumerow who was wide open.
  • Rodgers with consecutive completions to Tonyan & Kumerow. Too high for Lazard over middle, then tough throw in traffic knocked down. MVS with tiptoe sideline catch but not sure he was in. Scramble throw to diving Ervin for catch to end sequence.
  • Players are taking their pads off for the next part of practice, which LaFleur indicated yesterday would be akin to a walkthrough.
  • Davante Adams is currently jogging to the side with his helmet on. Jogging though some cuts on the sideline and catching short passes. Photo proof.
  • Davante Adams is back participating in 11-on-11 walkthroughs with a helmet on.
  • Bakhtiari is back in for the unpadded team work too.
  • So many drops in the first few days of camp. ESB just had one in a jog-through. He’s not the only one. Just an example.
  • And with a final flick to Lazard down the middle, practice is over.
Defense:

  • No Za’Darius Smith out here right now. Preston Smith working alone with OLBs coach Mike Smith.
  • Amos continues his strong play as he plays center field perfectly and picks off a Rodgers pass intended for Adams. Davante comes up limping. Hobbles off holding right leg to get looked at by a trainer. He’s walking inside the Hutson Center now.
  • Josh Jackson with absolute blanket coverage on a Boyle pass to EQ. Had a chance at a pick but it would have been tough.
  • Rashan Gary just absolutely worked Zach Johnson for a would be sack on Jordan Love.
  • Josh Jackson also has a pair of nice PBUs in team. Picking up where he left off yesterday. Sticky coverage.
  • Tim Williams with another “sack” - this time on Rodgers. He has shown up big the last couple days.
  • Za’Darius Smith must have been working out in the Hutson Center. He’s back on the field watching the last part of practice.
Special Teams:

  • Packers long snapper Hunter Bradley back in a helmet today and working with JK Scott before practice.
Media:

Practice has ended at: 11:53 AM CST | 1 hour 23 minutes

Next event is: Practice | August 20th | 10:10 AM CST

Press Conference Notes:

  • LaFleur on Amos, who had another INT today: "I thought he had a heck of a year last year, as well. He's a really good player and he's a great presence ... really assumes veteran role."
  • Matt LaFleur said Davante Adams was cleared to return to practice today after being checked out by medical staff: "They said he was good to go."..."Fortunately for us, he's going to be just fine."
  • Packers HC Matt LaFleur said tomorrow's practice in Lambeau will be a typical one. He wants the players to get used to the feeling of being out on the field without fans in the stands.
  • LaFleur on live tackling in practice: it's a wait and see approach, we might use it more for younger guys than veterans if we do it
  • Packers have dropped a lot of passes but LaFleur's not worried, saying that stands to reason after not having offseason practices.
  • LaFleur said it probably will be tough to get in all 14 padded practices before camp is over. But like today, he may go with more practices with pads on for a little while and then pads off to finish.
  • Matt LaFleur said he's been impressed with WR Equanimeous St. Brown: "He knows our playbook inside and out. He knows the finer details ... He's a long guy that's got a really nice catch radius and he has good speed."
  • Matt LaFleur on his new middle linebacker: "I've been super impressed with Christian. He's a pro's pro. He's been on top of his assignments and directing traffic out there."
  • LaFleur: " I will be interested to see what the ambient noise is the league will give us, want it sooner than later."
  • Amos: "I had a couple good balls thrown my way and just capitalized... there's an emphasis on turnovers."
  • Adrian Amos is the Packers oldest DB with 37-year-old Tramon Williams gone: “Now everybody calling me the old head. I’m still young. I’m 27 years old.”
  • Dean Lowry: “Watching the tape from last year and a lot of the big runs we gave up, we beat ourselves.” Said through the first couple practices, he senses a more physical run D and has been impressed with Christian Kirksey calling the shots.
  • Lowry "I've always been a pocket pusher, but no doubt the next step in my game has to be getting off those blocks"
  • TE Robert Tonyan worked out with George Kittle again this offseason. They share the same agent and are quite close. Heck of an opportunity for Tonyan to compete against the best: "He appreciates because he has someone that is chasing him, and I have someone I'm chasing."
  • RB Jamaal Williams says he worked out in the offseason in 100 degree heat dodging rattlesnakes. "I think that my life is an anime show and I'm my own main character." On 250 lbs. rookie RB AJ Dillion: "That boy is movin'! He's moving for how big he his."
  • Green Bay Packers have released T Travis Bruffy and WR Travis Fulgham (full-gum). General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions Wednesday.

How is it hard not to get 14 padded practices in players need to get hitting in get used to it before season starts. Can't just put them in shorts and say ok we all good

I look at the “dings” to important players (Bak, Z, and Tae) in the first couple days, and it makes me think he’s slow walking the contact stuff because of that.
Missing out on off season program is having an effect on what they will/won’t do in TC.

Packers Camp Day 5 :

General:

  • Full Pads Today
  • Today's practice is at Lambeau!
  • The Packers cut WR Travis Fulgham and OL Travis Bruffy yesterday in corresponding moves with reinstating LB Greg Roberts and LS Hunter Bradley from COVID IR.
Not Practicing: LB Za'Darius Smith (Rest), WR Davante Adams (Rest), S Adrian Amos (Personal)

Injuries: DL Montravius Adams (Toe), RB Patrick Taylor (NFI), OL Simon Stepaniak (NFI), OL Yosh Nijman (PUP), LB Curtis Bolton (PUP), Greg Roberts (PUP), WR Devin Funchess (Opt-Out IR)

Offense:

  • Bakhtiari is dressed for practice. Davante Adams sporting a baseball cap, is not.
  • Aaron Jones just tried to “pump up the crowd” by waiving his arms up at the media section. We...were not pumped up.
  • I also do not see center Corey Linsley.
  • Now EQ beats Jackson.
  • Shepherd runs a great route to beat Sullivan with sudden separation at top of route.
  • Deguara! Great leaping sideline grab with the toe tap to beat great coverage by Greene.
  • Begelton Beats Ebro though perhaps with a push off.
  • What a route as Ervin turns around Sullivan.
  • Lewis uses huge body to box out Redmond.
  • Lazard!!!! Up and over Alexander (who has a great contest) on the deep fade. Normally that would be a pass breakup but Lazard has some seriously strong hands.
  • AJ Dillon absolutely whiffs in a pass pro drill against Kamal Martin.
  • Another bad rep from Dillon against Martin.
  • Aaron Jones has had two really strong reps in this pass pro drill.
  • Dexter Williams having some pass pro troubles too.
  • Shepherd runs right past Sullivan.
  • Begelton runs under what looked like an overthrow for a deep catch vs Ento. Absolutely beautiful last step separation by Reggie Begelton against Kabion Ento. That was really, really pretty. Perfectly executed route and catch.
  • Lazard with another win vs Alexander on a quick slant, once again Jaire has hands all over the ball at catch point, but Lazard holds on.
  • Great route by Deguara against Greene who would have been called for an egregious hold as the pass fell incomplete. Impressive set of 1x1s for Deguara.
  • Corey Linsley came back out from locker room during one on ones. He’s on the sideline now.
  • Thought Lane Taylor, Elgton Jenkins, Kingsley Keke and Jon Runyan looked good.
  • 1x1: B. Turner 2, T. Williams 0 | L. Taylor 2, D. Lowry 0 | L. Patrick 1, T. Lancaster 1 | K. Clark 2, E. Jenkins 0 | P. Smith 1, A. Light 1 | R. Gary 1, R. Wagner 1 | K. Keke 1, C. Conway 1 | W. Previlon 1, J. Hanson 1 | J. Runyan 2, T. Hester 0 | R. Ramsey 1, J. Leglue 1 | J. Garvin 1, Z. Johnson 1 | D. Scott 1, L. Patrick 1 | T. Galeai 2, J. Leglue 0
  • Linsley is in for team. Seems to be fine. LT David Bakhtiari back in for 11-on-11 work today too.
  • The cutback lanes for Aaron Jones continue to be huge in team drills. First rep in team, o-line does a great job getting movement to the left, Aaron Jones takes it back foot for a big gain.
  • False start by Elgton Jenkins in team. He’s promptly taken out.
  • Nice blocking on a run by Tyler Ervin to the outside.
  • Toss to AJ Dillon but absolutely nothing doing.
  • Rodgers incomplete to Lazard but referee Aaron Rodgers signals holding on the defense and an automatic first down.
  • Nifty run by Jamaal Williams inside for about 5.
  • Some confusion on offense as Love steps in. Offense resets.
  • AJ Dillon runs really low to the ground with great balance. Good luck tackling him period, much less when it’s 20 below zero at Lambeau.
  • Bakhtiari just tumbled to the ground at the end of a play, got up and went off the field and took his helmet off. No real concern though as he isn't even talking to a trainer.
  • Now Rick Wagner drops out and is having his left arm looked at by a trainer. And now off to the locker room.
  • O-line our of sync with Boyle on a couple reps, one false start.
  • Jordan Love fumbles a snap in one of his 11-11 snaps.
  • Aaron Rodgers is not practicing with the wristband play sheet. Matt LaFleur is calling in plays from the sideline with crowd noise/music piped in. Only saw one apparent issue, and it looked like OC Nathaniel Hackett had to yell the call into the huddle.
  • Great job by Tonyan sealing Burks outside creating a big lane for Jones on a toss to the left. Turner good blocking too. The way Aaron Jones hits the cut back is special, stopped on a dime and turned upfield. As has been mentioned, the run offense seems far ahead of the pass offense, or a cynic mah say the run defense is still having some troubles.
  • Nice diving grab by MVS on a comeback route from Rodgers. Got plenty of separation. But Rodgers doesn’t seem happy with his throw since there weren’t any defenders near MVS. He pointed to MVS as if to say, “My bad.”
  • Lotta running plays in 11-on-11 today.
  • FanTASTIC throw down the right seam from Boyle to Dillon who held on despite a decent pop from the safety (Redmond). Dillon’s hands have been impressive so far after not being asked to catch passes much at Boston College.
  • Boyle just went deep to Lovett for a big completion. Outstanding leaping grab from Lovett. Boyle was probably sacked and probably not a ball he should have thrown as Vernon Scott initially had great coverage but Scott played the ball poorly and Lovett made a nice play. Some are saying OPI though.
  • Dillon just fine, showing off the tree trunks high stepping through the hole, that dude is going to be a load to bring down.
  • Nice crosser by MVS and Rodgers hits him on the PA pass. Patented play fake from Rodgers where he holds the ball almost behind his leg, then rises and fires to MVS who was cutting across about 20 yards downfield. Perfect rhythm throw. Sullivan on coverage. Rashan Gary close to a sack.
  • Alex Light’s had a really nice day in pass protection so far. Nice to see after his struggles a season ago.
  • Bakh is back in for team work.
  • Rodgers to MVS again. This one a shallow cross. Big day for the 3rd year WR.
  • Tyler Ervin finds some space and hauls in a pass for a nice gain. Packers dropped into zone.
  • Rodgers to Lazard for a contested catch over the middle. Deep in route.
  • With a checkdown to Jones now, Rodgers is 4-of-5 in the sequence. Might have had Tonyan breaking open deep.
  • Light and Jenkins struggled with a stunt and Rodgers had to quickly unload the ball. He seemed frustrated after the play and he and Tonyan had a chat afterwards.
  • Boyle finds Deguara on an out. Another crisp day from Boyle and a nice day from Deguara as well.
  • Sternberger open over the middle but Boyle misses him. Didn’t seem to be on the same page there.
  • Boyle then goes 2-of-3 on his third-down sequence, hitting Shepherd in addition to the ones mentioned above.
  • Love connects with Shepherd on an underneath throw,.
  • Delontae Scott fires through on a blitz for a “sack”. Love forced from the pocket and didn’t have time to set, throws a pass to the left sideline that looked destined to be incomplete but for a great effort to stretch out and grab it from EQ.
  • QBs 8-of-10 total.
  • Tonyan beats Greene inside for a nice gain. Tough day for Greene today. Great pass block by Light on Gary.
  • Rodgers in 2-minute starts with incomplete to MVS, hits Tonyan up the seam.
  • False start by MVS in 2 minute drill.
  • 12 escapes the pocket and finds EQ for a short gain as he gets out of bounds to stop the clock.
  • Rodgers has not been happy with the play of the offense today. Can’t connect with Lazard after it looked like he may have stopped on the route a bit. Defense wins.
  • Final play featured a great blitz pick up by Williams.
  • Jordan Love finds Jace Sternberger on a crossing route underneath. Over on the sideline, a figure in a red jersey gestures first down. It was Aaron Rodgers. Burks in coverage.
  • Now Love incomplete over the middle to Darius Shepherd.
  • Darrius Shepherd has looked good today. Just held on to a laser from Jordan Love over the middle after taking a big hit from Henry Black. Randy Ramsey with pressure on the play.
  • Another fantastic catch, this time along the sidelines by Shep from Love. Those two are in a rhythm right now. D thinks they knocked him OB, but they give it to him and Crosby comes on for 48-yarder. Perfect.
  • Practice ends with Love hitting Malik Taylor in stride down the sideline. Earns a slap on the backside from Boyle.
Defense:

  • Za’Darius Smith won’t be practicing.
  • No sign of Adrian Amos out here either.
  • Matt LaFleur loves playing defensive back in passing drills. Good base, decent backpedal, stiff hips.
  • Kirksey with a really strong rep in a one on one passing drill with Aaron Jones, who ran a good arrow route with Kirksey all over him.
  • King defends Kumerow well forcing him to the left sideline, incomplete.
  • Vernon Scott with great coverage on Sternbeger.
  • Za’Darius Smith isn’t practicing but he is teaching. Was talking to every DL/OLB after their 1-on-1s against the OL, showing them moves and what they could do different.
  • Session ended with tipa galeai getting two wins off the edge. In 1-on-1s a guy to watch was undrafted LB Tipa Galeai. Very quick off the ball. Downside is he’s 6-5, 229.
  • A couple of impressive rushes from Kenny Clark in the 1-on-1s: beat Elgton Jenkins once and then drew a hold the next time. Other impressive winners: Lane Taylor (2x), Tipa Galeai (2x), Jon Runyan (2x), Rashan Gary (once).
  • Preston Smith with a would-be sack of Aaron Rodgers during 11-on-11s and Rodgers throws it into the grass.
  • Allen Lazard got the better of Alexander in drills but Jaire just blanketed him in the first pass to him in team.
  • Like what I’ve seen from Kirksey in space, anticipates, keeps balance and can trail.
  • Checkdown to Jamaal Williams but Kirksey is right there for the immediate stop.
  • Tim Williams failed to set the edge on a run but it went for a minimal gain.
  • Don’t know if either of them can cover or tackle, but Kamal Martin and Ty Summers sure seem to be able to cover a lot of ground. Nice ILB combination.
  • Nice stick by Ento on a pass to Lewis. Stopped him in his tracks. Could hear the pads pop.
  • Kenny Clark had a clear shot on Aaron Jones but wisely let him keep running. Would have been a tfl in a real game.
  • Tipa busts through for a would be sack on Love. Love delivers anyway to Begelton but DeShaun Amos with great coverage and a pbu.
  • Rashan Gary with a nice pass rush against Rick Wagner. He’s showing more burst.
  • Nice PBU in the back of the end zone by UDFA rookie CB Stanford Samuels from Florida St. on a Jordan Love pass intended for Jake Kumerow in the back of the end zone.
  • Raven Greene ends red-zone period with leaping PBU on deep shot from Love.
  • Another pass to a running back - another stop by Christian Kirksey. Anything 5 yards or less sideline to sideline he’s been absolutely all over to start camp.
  • Call it great defense or questionable offense but the receivers are struggling to find any separation from the Packers starting defensive backs.
  • Jonathan Garvin fights through the line for a pressure which causes Boyle to fire high for Sternberger.
  • Rodgers and MVS not on the same page. Great coverage from King.
  • Alex Light, who is playing a position on the field, got sucked inside against Preston Smith. Rashan Gary, another professional player, rushed outside on a stunt and had a free shot at Aaron Rodgers. The red jersey saved Rodgers on that one.
  • Kevin King just completely owned Jake Kumerow up the left sideline. Mercy. Kings coverage on Kumerow forces him out of bounds. No chance for Kumerow to make a play. King looks great today.
  • Two minute starts well enough with slant to Tonyan but good showing for defense from there. Preston Smith appeared to have a “sack” as well.
  • Delontae Scott with another impressive play, bull rushing through John Leglue for a sack of Love.
  • Really good pass rush rep from Tipa in team. Would have had a sack.
  • Will Sunderland with his best play of camp breaking up a Love pass intended for Malik Taylor.
  • Kabion Ento is having a good day. Knocked down a ball from Love.
  • The Smiths are chanting “Defense! Defense!” On the sideline watching two minute drill.
Special Teams:

  • Malik Turner looks really good as a gunner on punt team.
  • Begleton has put together a couple good reps at gunner as well.
  • JK Scott with a fairly solid punting session on a breezy day. Got some spirals to turn over.
  • Scott averages 47.9 and 4.54 hang time on 11 punts.
  • Crosby just made a 15 yard field goal off the the side. No-doubter.
  • 48 yard FG by Crosby is good to end two minute.
  • Crosby is 4 for 4 (33, 40 RH, 45 LH, 50 RH)
Media:

Practice has ended at: 12:04 PM CST | 1 hour 54 minutes.

Next event is: Practice | August 22nd | 10:30 AM CST

Press Conference Notes:

  • Matt LaFleur said they were able to go through installs during ramp-up period. Now reviewing on the field.
  • Coach Matt LaFleur said that he believes Billy Turner as proven he could start for him at RT if he decides to go that direction.
  • Coach Matt LaFleur confirms the noise at practice was the prototype ambient noise the NFL wants teams to use during games with no fans. He noted that it was loud enough in person that they had to use silent count.
  • LaFleur said young ILBs Ty Summers and Kamal Martin are going to have to be ready to play when the season starts because it's still a competition for the spot next to Christian Kirksey.
  • Matt LaFleur says he's been impressed by Lovett, laughs when saying he needs to look back over the film to see if there was a pushoff on his go route.
  • LaFleur: "Jamaal Williams brings energy to team and versatility, saw workouts he posted and it did not look easy, running the mountain in Arizona, we have a lot of confidence in Jamaal."
  • Matt LaFleur says Adrian Amos was "excused for the day" because of a personal matter. He'll be back shortly. Says injuries to Davante Adams and Za'Darius Smith are "nothing serious" and they should be back soon.
  • RB AJ Dillon said he is getting more comfortable in the passing game as camp continues: "Every rep, getting a little bit better, a little bit more confident."
  • AJ Dillon on his legs: "I can't take complete credit for it; some of it is genetics." He called it a "sturdy base" and at Boston College made a point to focus on leg strength.
  • Dillon added he thinks all the talk on his legs is funny. He also cleared the air...he's always worn his shorts rolled up like he does at practice.
  • QB Jordan Love the virtual offseason was different than being around teammates. "Nothing beats being in the locker room and around the guys," he said.
  • Love on Lambeau: "Just coming out of the tunnel and seeing it, it was a lot bigger than I thought it was."
  • Love says it's been "really awesome" working with Rodgers and trying to "learn by watching him."..."He's a great person."

Nagler said Dex is running with the 3s and 4s. Missing in pass pro is not the way to become Aaron Rodgers' teammate.

Nice to hear about MVS making some plays. EQ too.

On D, I've heard good things about Randy Ramsey, Tim Williams and Jonathan Garvin. OLBs competing for Fackrell's spot.
