Official 2020 Packers Training Camp Thread

i read that too, but i just was looking through the photos of today's practice on packers.com, and it looks like they were just wearing the standard eyeshields not the full face shields that were designed for covid protection.

saw gutey and at least one coach wearing a neck gaiter which has been determined to be the least effective type of face mask - possibly worse than no mask at all.

Watching video of camp not one player I saw had a mouth covering on their facemask. Seems all the coaches and media were required to have them on though.

People coming to TC still to try to look under the tarp for peek at the players? LOL

Dear Lord people get a life...

Doesnt surprise me, training camp is a yearly ritual for alot of people. Nothing wrong with going to watch from outside the fence.

Camp Day 2:

General:

  • Not full pads today, but the players will be in shells.
  • They are apparently blasting some artificial crowd noise today.
  • TE James Looney, CB Marc-Antoine Dequoy and WR Darrell Stewart were cut after the last practice.
Not Practicing: LB Greg Roberts (COVID IR)

Injuries: RB Patrick Taylor (NFI), OL Simon Stepaniak (NFI), OL Yosh Nijman (PUP), LB Curtis Bolton (PUP), WR Devin Funchess (Opt-Out IR)

Offense:

  • Pre-practice, Lazard and St. brown catching one ball after another on JUGS.
  • TE Jace Sternberger and DT Treyvon Hester are both practicing, which means they’re off the reserve/COVID-19 list. Sternberger catching passes on his first day back.
  • John Lovett has some sweet hands. Already plucked a couple tough passes that looked just out of reach.
  • A couple drops early in practice for Marquez Valdes-Scantling running routes on air.
  • Davante Adams catches everything. Just made a sick one handed grab on a pass behind him in routes on air.
  • You see Dexter Williams’ short area quickness when he presses accelerate. Gets 0 to 60 quick.
  • Rick Wagner gets the first reps at RT with Billy Turner at RG in 11-on-11.
  • Josiah Deguara got a fullback rep to start team reps. Allen Lazard the other WR on field with Davante Adams.
  • Rodgers just flicked it across the field from the far hash like it was nothing for a completion. Always striking to see him throw in person.
  • AJ Dillon brings in a nice pass down the seam from Boyle. Raven Greene was in position but still a noteworthy grab for the RB . Dillon, it should be said, looks like he has natural hands so far, impressive for a RB his size.
  • Swervin Tyler Ervin takes the jet sweep handoff from Rodgers for a nice gain. Tyler Ervin is that dude who may be the smallest in recess football but just owned everyone.
  • Still very early, but of the rookies, it appears TE Josiah Deguara is the most likely to see playing time right away.
  • Lazard with a nice crosser from Rodgers across middle through traffic.
  • Now Rodgers hits Adams on a quick slant.
  • Blown coverage and Rodgers just overthrows Kumerow down right sideline. He knows he missed one.
  • Davante Adams just dropped a pass and I’m actually shocked.
  • Tim Boyle really does look so much more comfortable in year 3, and especially year 2 in LaFleur’s offense.
  • Lucas Patrick isn’t at center with the second-team OL. Instead he’s at RG with rookie Jake Hanson at C. Hanson started 49 games at C in four years at Oregon.
  • Jordan Love just tried to fit a pass into a tight window around 3 defenders and it didn’t go well.
  • Rodgers responds with a bullet to Tyler Ervin, who is lightning quick.
  • Man, Boyle has been so sharp. Nice job safely leading Shepherd deep down the left seam, pass on point.
  • Rodgers finding a rhythm again with a couple connections to Lazard.
  • Rodgers throwing plenty of crossers over the middle and threading traffic. Kumerow & Tonyan with completions.
  • Jordan Love escapes to his right but throws the ball in the dirt in front of Fulgham.
  • Rotation at RG has been Billy Turner, Lane Taylor and Lucas Patrick mostly. Rookie Jon Runyon has stayed exclusively at left guard.
Defense:

  • Jaire Alexander just raced across half the field because he was so excited for the first scrimmage period
  • Really good read by Vernon Scott, deflects a pass up but no one can come down with it
  • Tyler Lancaster blew up a play action pass and Randy Ramsey dropped an easy tipped pass from Jordan Love.
  • Rookie seventh-round safety Vernon Scott the early standout today with a couple forced incompletions on Jordan Love passes. He closes quickly.
  • Montravius Adams currently getting first-team reps over Tyler Lancaster alongside Kenny Clark and Dean Lowry on the D-line. (Still rotating with Lancaster for first-team throughout the practice too.)
  • First pick of camp for Aaron Rodgers comes courtesy of Christian Kirksey on a zone drop. Rodgers who was trying to hit Adams down the left seam off play action essentially threw it right to him.
  • Plenty of first-team reps on D again today for LB Rashan Gary.
  • 12 just held the ball for-ever (Preston would have had a sack) waiting for someone to come open and then just chucked it into the dirt. Score one for the secondary.
  • Big completion from Love down the sideline to Ervin just now. Would’ve been a sack by Jonathan Garvin, but nobody cares about sacks during camp, right?
Special Teams:

  • LS Hunter Bradley back on the field but no helmet - very close to a return from Reserve/COVID-19 list.
  • Packers taking punt return reps today: Tyler Ervin, Darrius Shepherd and Jaire Alexander.
  • Hunter Bradley not in helmet, he’s teaching John Leglue and Tipa Galeai the art of long snapping.
  • Leglue is snapping again. Bradley is here with the specialists but not participating.
  • Aaron Rodgers is catching Mason Crosby’s field goal attempts over the uprights. Seems to be having fun.
  • Tim Boyle taking a snap holding on field goals.
  • Crosby was either 9-10 or 10-10 on FG. No rush.

Practice has ended at: 11:54 AM CST |1 hour 44 minutes

Next event is: Practice | August 18th 2020 | 10:10 AM CST

Press Conference Notes:

  • HC Matt LaFleur on Rashan Gary's fitness, "He came back in phenomenal shape. I saw a lot of the videos he posted this entire off season."
  • Matt LaFleur on AJ Dillon's hands (not legs): "I think he’s definitely demonstrated the ability to show those natural hands… more or less just getting that experience in practice… today he showed that he can."
  • Last year, Matt LaFleur was less than pleased with the tempo early on in training camp. Said they're putting the QBs and the offense on the shot clock and "getting in and out of the huddle is night and day from where it was a year ago." Also impressed with their leadership, command and urgency to the LOS.
  • Packers OL coach Adam Stenavich was San Jose State’s OL coach when Tyler Ervin was there. Matt LaFleur said Stenavich has been in his ear about using Ervin more on offense.
  • Matt LaFleur cautioned rookie safety Vernon Scott needs to not get too shallow as the post defender, but liked how active he was around the ball in practice today: "He definitely has great instincts, and we expect him to be a playmaker."
  • Packers going pads tomorrow, LaFleur says.
  • Matt LaFleur on Jordan Love's footwork: "It's definitely a work in progress. There's a lot going on in his head right now ... I think that's expected for any young quarterback."

AKA Jordan Love is what he think he is a project QB that should not see the field in 2020 no matter the situation.

But Boyle looks sharp. No worries
With Boyle do you keep him around in 2021 as backup or let him go. Would you try to keep him around as backup to Love in a couple years or find someone else to handle job.

they will keep him as a backup. pretty much every team is going with three qbs this year. many teams are talking about keeping the 3rd qb separate from the rest of the team so they have a backup if both the starter and the primary backup get covid. i think the bigger question is will boyle be #2 or #3. based on only two days of camp, boyle is looking more game-ready than love.

I think Love has zero percent chance to be #2 I am thining though will Boyle be on the team next year and would they even consider to keep Boyle as the backup when Love takes over.
