Post Game Preseason Game 1 Jets Slaughter GB

I was not able to watch the game and am apparently better for it.

All I've read indicates we were out hustled and out efforted and pummeled mentally and physically.

Yes, it's only pre-season but your non-starters pick up their attitude, effort, and mental focus from the starters.

Reading about the butt whooping wasn't encouraging.

Forget the effort at this point. First, they had tired legs...very odd unless they were dumb enough to lift on a pre-game day ? But beyond that, our talent level went down, not up, off-season in that second/third tier.

Welch showed up in a big way last night, if they cut him again, they're dumb. We have depth in the DT position...rotate them out and we will be okay.

Our pet peeve OL is worse than we both thought. Marshmallows unless they play a third-string DL.

Several guys tonight on the bubble did nothing to help there cases. Hopefully for them this was a kick in the butt to get them to focus harder and play harder in the next game. If guys like Hardman, Simmons, and Monk have another game like they did it might be to much to overcome to make the team.

Granted none of those 3 are game changers and if they make the team are unlikely to contribute in any meaningful way.

As Mark pointed out the depth is poor on this team. Green Bay can not afford to go into 2nd or 3rd team units as the drop off is huge. The OL might be the worst were Gute needs to be watching who is cut on final cutdowns as he will likely be able to find better depth then he has right now.

Make no mistake, this game is meaningless in the scheme of things. That said, we got our backsides handed to us in all 3 phases. The team has bad depth past #30. Gute needs to address OL depth and the defensive backfield in the next 3 weeks.

Colts up next.
I have to say that I was a little surprised. They were not in sync. More dropped balls.

I don't know why this is but GB has played this way in preseason games going back 20 years. They never come out looking prepared or interested. At this point it's a cultural thing, and it's part of the culture ML has built and lived with. Think about it this way, when ML came in he had Rodgers, Adams, Aaron Jones and a veteran OL. Those guys didn't take preseason reps because they really didn't need them. They would take one regular season game to get into shape and then they'd turn it on from there. Since 2023 he's been trying to run a veteran preseason schedule with a much younger, less experienced starting roster. A culture change may be needed where these guys need to expect to play and play for real in the preseason, but that kind of change isn't going to happen overnight if that's what he's after. Problem now is that the NFCN is not a cupcake division any more, you can't take the whole month of September to get in gear because you could wind up hopelessly behind 2 or even 3 other teams in your own division. They have to play and figure this out in the next couple weeks.
