He completely fits the O, he stood out when I was looking at 3rd/4th round WR.Watching ML's post draft presser, it was about 20 minutes long and he spoke about Williams for maybe 5 minutes of that time - 25% of the pc was dedicated to this guy. Definitely had a lot of influence in this player eval, must have a vision for him.
Do you - or anyone else here - have any insight into coaches role in the draft? Listening to some people talk about it, coaches of course don't have time to evaluate 300 guys but it sounds like, at least some teams will present a more condensed list of guys to coaches for them to look at and have discussions over. Hearing ML talk about Williams made me think about it, and I also wonder what role ML had in getting guys like Banks and Belton to GB. Like, did he and Gute talking about wanting to get bigger on the OL and that's how it happened? Two of the four heaviest OL drafted by Gute were drafted this year, three of the four heaviest in the last two drafts. Prior to that Gute was largely taking these really athletic, sub-310 lb guys. The HC must have a role here, did he get to watch film of Belton working out or was it sort of a general desire to getting larger up front and then Gute and the scouts make their decisions? Just curious. He completely fits the O, he stood out when I was looking at 3rd/4th round WR.
Not sure if Gute ever changed it up but I know under Ted it seemed the coaches had little to no say. They could maybe suggest a name to Ted who he would watch tape on but Ted just did his own thing esp at the end with his swiss cheese brain.Do you - or anyone else here - have any insight into coaches role in the draft? That's a very loaded question, yes coaches have some insight into picks. Remember GB big board is up and working before the season ends... the staff knows their list of top prospects by position. I do think the whole get bigger thing is weird for an inside zone team.Do you - or anyone else here - have any insight into coaches role in the draft?
