Packers 2022 Thread

I don't think Lazard and Cobb are locks. If they come into camp and get outplayed they should be cut. They are not so good they need to be kept at all costs.
Cobb is lock because he's Rodgers guy he's getting kept. Lazard I can't see any UDFA be worth keeping over him.

i have never been a fan of gute's drafts, but i have to say that (on paper anyway) i'm really impressed with this draft. it seems like he stuck to players that might actually have some chance of contributing in some way in their rookie seasons. there are even a few that were taken who were clearly chosen for how they might improve special teams. we won't know for sure until the games are played, but right now i feel pretty good about the guys we got.

Thanks GBP4 for that very early take on the roster. My take on the roster:

QB: Rodgers, Love, and Benkert. Zero spots open

WR: Lazard, Cobb, Watson, Rodgers, Watkins, Doubs are all very likely to be on roster. They might have one open spot as they have kept 7 before.

RB: Jones and Dillion are locks. Hill likely to start season on PUP after ACL surgery. Taylor is likely #3. Am intrigued by UDFA Goodson. His athletic comp is Aaron Jones. Goodson is fast and athletic. If he can add a little strength and they can unlock his potential they might have an interesting UDFA contributor. Maybe 1 open spot.

TE: Lewis and Deguara are likely. Tonyan starts year on PUP. 1-2 open spots.

OL: Bakhtiari, Myers, Newman, Nijman, Runyan, Rhyan, and Tom are likely, Jenkins will start on PUP. Hanson may make it as the back-up OC, but if Tom can fill in there, he could be cut once Jenkins is back. Leaves 1-2 spots to be won among Wallace, Van Lanen, and a couple of UDFAs.

DL: Clark, Wyatt, Reed, Lowry, and Slaton are likely. Probably leaves 1 spot open for Ford if he can seize the opportunity.

LB: Smith, Campbell, Gary, Walker, Barnes, and Enagbare seem likely. Leaves 2-4 open spots.

DB: Alexander, Stokes, Douglas, Amos, Savage, Jean-Charles, and Carpenter are likely. Leaves 2-4 open spots.

I'm making almost every rookie a likely as the Packers don't usually give up on rookies too often. That said it's likely that at least 2-3 will be on the PS. I see it as about 8-10 roster spots that are pretty wide open for an existing young player or a late draft pick/UDFA to compete for.

the reason they are locks is because they are the only two receivers that have a history working with rodgers and already have a good grasp of the offense.
Cobb is a lock, because Aaron says so. I think Amari would really have to shit himself to not make the team. By December, our WR corps should be up to speed and a very good unit.

I'd like to share your enthusiasm, but Cobb has already shown he's a shell of his former self, Rodgers would need to make a huge jump to contribute, and rookies just don't historically add much in GB their first year, especially when the recently drafted WRs who have a lot to work on including size/strength/speed etc...

By December we will have a good idea of what the future will hold and what pieces they will need to draft next spring. Now, next season GB should be a juggernaut no matter who is at QB.

I should make some wagers on Amari lol

Very possible we could even need more WR's next year. Cobb likely won't be brought back again, Amari struggles GB could just cut bait, Lazard will be a FA and could price himself out of GB and Watkins could not be brought back leaving you with what you drafted at WR this year.

100%. There'll likely still be a lot of questions in the WR room again after this season. We might be looking at WR still being a top-3 need for next year's draft.

Interesting being reported that the Packers had called Ravens about trading for Hollywood Brown before they shipped him off to AZ.

Don’t believe this at all. That pesky thing called a salary cap.
