2022 Badger Football Thread

Correct and that's on PC who pulled him away from defense to cover his ass, he failed to recruit depth at RB in two cycles. Gee, where have we heard that before
100% agree. But to be fair he had Berger who was supposedly the next real deal and then pulled Messuli out of the portal and he got injured. Davis has not developed either.

Edit : They also missed on Crawford, in full transparency that’s 2 evaluation misses

I highly doubt he it’s the portal (Allen)

As to Allen going pro, if you leave early to be a 3rd or 4th round pick your getting bad advice. And that’s probably as of now his ceiling. He’s not Gordon or Taylor or James White. He’s probably a better version of John Clay or PJ Hill at this point. We don’t know what he is in pass pro, he’s at best average out of backfield and while he’s got some speed he’s not going to beat guys at the next level. He’s got good feet but he’s hesitant at times which in part due to inexperience but he’s not particularly fast to the hole either. Nice kid and RB at this level but it’s not going to translate well at the next level

Personally he would have stayed at safety or LB, he would have been a beast
Thing is these kids don't want to take extra year of beating on bodies at RB and want to go pro to hit FA as soon as possible.

And he gets no guarantees money and would be a roster long shot.

One more Clay / Allen analogy

OSU recruited Clay as a LB. They did not thing he would translate at the next level

Allen would have been a monster at ILB. He could also play safety. He'd be a guy who could transition his style on a play by play basis, giving opponents a real problem figuring out where he was going.

I totally agree on Chryst and his staff screening potential RBs. They had failed miserably, over the last few years. They were getting dumber every year.

Based on what Allen said, when he decided to come to Wisconsin, he was going to end up in the RB pool for openers. If that helped make his mind up, I don't know. I do know that I'm glad he chose Wisconsin.

I watched the stumbling attempts at recruiting by the Badgers down here in Texas. It was like sending a skinny 8th grade kid with glasses into the HS football team locker room, to give them a lecture on blocking, and tackling.

Allen played safety for first 3 years at HS. Moved to RB his senior year. I think he ended up liking it over safety and likely wanted to play RB at UW.

Leonhard was the secondary recruiter for Allen. Haering was the lead. He was recruited as a S / LB
