Post Game Thread: New England defeats Green Bay

The biggest thing I noticed yesterday was that this wasn't a battle of GOATs, but a battle of coaches between MM and BB on the offensive side of the ball that BB clearly won. The lack of creativity in play calling by Packers (and vice versa about the Pats) really says a lot about the Packers real issues.

I feel bad for Aaron Jones. He's dynamic, energetic, slippery, sees that hole and has that burst of speed to get through to the next level. I really believe, given more opportunities, we'd see some NFL highlight runs. Unfortunately, after another good game (with limited play) he had a bad fumble. That means MM can justify to himself why he's giving him limited playing time and why he should continue to do so.

Defense played well until they could no longer keep themselves held together in the fourth. That's a positive to me, for the first three quarters anyway. All the injuries though...

Edit: Who won the coin flip? Was it Packers deferring again to play from behind, or Pats to set the tone with that awesome opening drive and make us play from behind? (Deferring is a pet peeve of mine.)

Oak, they won and deferred. Pats came out with that break-neck hurry up and went right down the field.

To your point about coaching, many coaches will be outdone by BB, but it's not the first time it's happened this year. Matt Nagy and Kyle Shanahan coached circles around MM and were only undone by some deficiencies in personnel. Being outcoached and out-schemed has become a terrible pattern this season. Another reason why GB will move on from MM after 2018.

Apathy has set in for me.

I'm trying to look on the bright side. Top 12 or so first round pick along with top 25-27 or so draft pick from Saints. Rodgers, A.Jones, pretty damn good receivers, Clark and Daniels on DLine, foundation for good secondary. Draft LB, OLine and safety. AND god willing a new coach.

Rpiotr, to start the game out in a hurry-up and set the tone right off the bat, that's coaching. As much as I love my Pack and hate the Pats, I was impressed! I immediately wonder (as I do every week lately) why doesn't MM take the opening kickoff, hand the ball to Rodgers and tell him, "Here. You run the two-minute drill to kickstart this game." That's coaching.

And then the flea flicker. I wonder yet again, "Why can't MM be that creative?" (After all, wasn't Cobb the all-rookie QB at Kentucky?)

This game was hyped as being the Battle of the GOATs. I said it was going to be coaching that would make one look better than the other. After the game, of course Brady was proclaimed the GOAT. Then I got to thinking (not always good)... How can you decide who really is the GOAT? I came up with this hypothetical: Reverse Brady and Rodgers. What do you think Brady would look like today if he were under McCarthy, and what would Rodgers look like now if he was under BB after all these years? Because I believe Rodgers makes MM look good and BB made Brady great!

Arod would have more rings than Brady. Brady probably has one from 2010. And left in FA because he may be the smartest QB in the game and wouldn't stay in GB with MM....

Did Rodgers make McCarthy look better yes. Brees also make Payton look better . Did BB make Brady better no. It was Mc Daniels and an organization that was aggressive in free agency and took some gambles personal wise (Moss , Talib etc)

Oak...in both cases believe both HC helped make their QBs great.

In the other hand, both QBs had to be special to start with. Also all the coaching doesn't mean a thing if these two didn't have the intangibles.

Some thoughts today~

What an undisciplined team. McCarthy is becoming Forrest Gregg. They are finding new and fascinating ways to lose games they should be in.

The defense it is always the defense to me. How many times do they miss tackles, or run in to each other, or fail to adjust? I am still baffled on that trick play with Edelman threw the ball across the field and the entire OL for the Pats is out there and the Packers were so late to figure out what is going on ?

Whitehead was a dumbass but that is NOT something you eject a player for. And the personal foul for running in to the kicker? don't get me started on that one.

I wonder what the Packers record on primie time is the past 3 years? Maybe its just me but they get a case of the Badgers and pee down their legs in primetime.

Didn't get to see much of the game again, which unfortunately is getting easier and easier. Though I will probably try to skip through it on the dvr. I actually read more of the game thread on ESPN than I saw of the game.

Sounds like the same themes we've seen all season. This is what I was afraid of back in WK03, hoping they'd clean some of this up. But there are a lot of new faces in new places so that shouldn't be as surprising as it is. The most solid foundational and field tilting piece we have looks like he has some of the same symptoms which is more concerning. Is it the knee? the surrounding cast? the coach?

Pettine is putting up a good fight every week vs. the roman army with a few good men and paper mache shadow puppets. Get him a 3-4 more good players where they need them and that side should be fixed.

What about trying to hire McDaniels away from NE as our next HC? I know he bombed in Denver but lots of coaches don't do well on the first go round.
