With Pick #12 GB Selects Rashan Gary DE/OLB Michigan

I thought Gary said he did not need surgery. So he lied????

no. you are misreading the article. the article says that it is inevitable he will need surgery some day. he played all last season with the injury, and the packers medical staff must believe that he can do so again.

According to this article, it’s not super serious. Also mentions Gary being used at OLB. Hated the pick when they made it but I’m warming up to it. Not sure who would have been better at that point? Draft couldn’t have fallen worse for the Packers.

Article also mentions how DE Demarcus Lawrence played with labral tear this last year and had pro bowl year. So, a player who plays a position like Gary will can still play at a very high level, despite the injury.

I guess we have to see how this unfolds.

I still have concerns about the injury. When a man has to wear a brace, and they talk about him eventually needing surgery, does that mean a simple fix between seasons, or could it entail a lot of recovery time? I just don't like risky picks because they've never seemed to work out for the Packers. I sure hope I'm wrong on this one.

well . . . maybe specific treatment on it can help it stay healthy "enough" prior to surgery. Or we could call up the ghost of Reggie White . . .

I'm sorry. You do not draft a guy at 12 who has a history of being lazy (supposedly) and has a shoulder injury. Wilkins would have been a much better pick at 12. The injury is the biggest deal to me. I think this will be a bad pick and he will not be on the team in 3 years.

Just not a fan of this pick. If I am wrong I will come back on here and admit I was wrong. We will see.

While the injury is a concern the move to OLB is terrifying. Last thing I want to see is square peg / round hole fit, we have seen that movie before. Not a fan of the pick and hope I am wrong also. One more thing on injury. This is a long term guy so it’s not going to set the restocking plan back BUT at the same time this move needs to show production sooner than later

I have had to have surgery on both of my shoulders. A knee moves one way but a shoulder is a ball jount that has to move all around. Shoulders can be tricky. I don't think labrum tears are nearly as serious as restructures. But shoulders can be tough to repair and recover.

I don't understand Gute not being more concerned about shoulder injuries (ala Gary and Kevin King)?? Green Bay's medical staff must be confident he's okay. Hasn't been so good with King, though. That's a head scratcher for me.

I am rather confused on the whole matter truthfully. First things first you really never know how a pick will pan out for 3-4 years. What's strange here is it's another guy who was a 4-3/3-4 base end trying to be used as a OLB and or hybrid rusher.

For what 3-5 years we all thought it was TT or Capers with this stuff. It gives me pause on Gute because he was in the background with some of those sh)) picks before and it seems to have carried over. I would tend to agree with several of the outside reviews he's a boom or bust type of pick. Time will tell.
