2022 Training Camp Update: August 9th

General:

  • Just shoulder pads today.
  • Rodgers is getting a vet rest day so it's the Jordan Love show now.

Injuries: OL David Bakhtiari (PUP-knee), K Mason Crosby (PUP-knee), OL Elgton Jenkins (PUP-knee), TE Robert Tonyan (PUP-knee), WR Christian Watson (PUP-knee), RB Kylin Hill (PUP-knee)

Not Practicing / Limited: WR Malik Taylor (shoulder), OL Cole Schneider (ankle), RB Patrick Taylor (groin), WR Osiris Mitchell (quad), Darnell Savage (hamstring), OLB Randy Ramsey (ankle), Donte Vaughn (hamstring), QB Aaron Rodgers (vet rest)

Offense:

  • 1st OL Yosh - Runyan - Myers - Hanson - Newman
  • Love rebounds with nice throw with pressure in his face to Lazard on deep over route, who reaches up high to haul it in.
  • Nice run by Tyler Goodson to the outside. Garvin may have had a play on him. He beat Dafney. Garvin’s getting in the habit of making plays lately.
  • Doubs end around works well. Solid blocking outside by Winfree.
  • Love and Toure with a nice connection across the middle off playaction. Good tempo.
  • Romeo Doubs touchdown. This time for 20 yards from Love who has perfected the back corner end zone throw. He’s hit multiple of those throws in camp. Pretty ball and execution from 10. Doubs beat Douglas.
  • Yosh nice job on pass pro against Gary.
  • Nice run by Dillon to the outside with a huge hat tip to Josh Myers for leading the way.
  • Nice find by Etling to Alize Mack over the middle for a nice leaping catch right up the seam.
  • Love finds Aaron Jones for a touchdown from the 9. Nice angle route and nice throw.
  • Love under throws Doubs in the end zone. May have been some contact but can’t say the ball was catchable.
Defense:

  • OLB Randy Ramsey is back out today with the ankle injury.
  • Hamstring injury for Donte Vaughn. He’s out today.
  • Jordan Love, running with the 1s, throws a high pass off Sammy Watkins’ hand on a slant. It deflects straight to CB Eric Stokes, who picks it.
  • Rashan Gary just destroyed a Yosh/Aaron Jones double team for an easy sack on Love. Love looked shocked Gary was there so quick.
  • Blocking Preston Smith with Amari Rodgers shockingly doesn’t work. Smith stops Jones 4-5 yards deep in the backfield. Nixon right there for support too.
  • Next play Preston probably has a would be sack on Love.
  • Chris Slayton with a stop near the LOS.
  • Jonathan Garvin with a nice speed rush for what would’ve been a sack of Etling. Beat Cole Van Lanen.
  • Devonte Wyatt shows some emotion after a run play when he ends up on the ground. Seemed frustrated with himself.
  • It’s usually against the 2nd/3rd teams but Heflin has been eating rb’s for lunch in run defense.
  • Shawn Davis in at free safety with one’s in red zone.
  • Heflin shoots through again against Newman. He continues to show up on run defense. (Byers with the stop near the line).
  • Rashan Gary with another pressure.
  • TJ Slaton swallows up a run play.
  • And TJ Slaton swallows up another run play in large part due to a fantastic edge set by Garvin.
  • Chris Slayton coverage sack on Etling.
  • The offense forgot to block Rashan Gary on a run play that went right at Rashan Gary. It… did not go well.
  • Gary and Preston stunt works to perfection, Smith comes clean.
  • Shemar with a pbu vs Danny Davis. Ball was a bit high from Etling too.
  • Jarran Reed stuffed a B.J. Baylor run.
  • Shawn Davis was with the 1’s earlier but back to Vernon Scott now.
  • Clark & Reed combine for a stop of Dillon.
  • Kenny Clark would’ve had a sack but Love hits Doubs over the middle on a crosser. Three defenders there to meet him.
  • Jonathan Garvin (off the edge) and Dean Lowry (from three tech) with strong rushes on back to back plays.
  • Kiondre Thomas with some pretty damn good coverage on Allen Lazard.
  • Keisean Nixon is a fun player. Love how he plays. Just mauled (legally) Hyman off the LOS. Plays with a lot of confidence.
  • Nixon just did the same thing to Toure.
  • Amos solid coverage on Tyler Davis back end zone for a pbu. Pretty good ball by 10.
  • Packers just went one man rush and 10 in coverage. Jarran Reed did not beat the 5 OL.
Special Teams:

  • Steven Wirtel back at practice today after limping off yesterday.
  • Keisean Nixon showing off his special teams chops as a gunner. Right in the returners grill (legally) as he caught the punt.

Practice is over after 1 hr 36 min.

Next Event:
Open Practice, August 10th 10:30 AM CT

Media:

  • Mason Crosby rehabbing with a soccer ball video
  • Jordan Love warmup video
  • RB drills video
  • Marcedes Lewis drill video
Interviews:

LaFleur
Presser:

  • HC Matt LaFleur said today’s closed practice will be uptempo & will last about 90 minutes, working towards a 2 hour practice tomorrow.
  • "Roll call to the ball" is a Bisaccia-ism. LaFleur's seen that on defense, with all 11 players rallying to the ball.

Crosby to retire and join a MLS team?

He's right. One series won't tell you anything. He needs more time on the field with his new receivers to develop continuity.

Yes, don't you think so?
no way i could describe him as "fat". he did add some weight trying to become less injury prone from what i have read. the big question is how has that weight gain impacted his speed? i'll have to wait and see how he looks in a game.
