2022 Training Camp Update: July 28th

Injuries: OL David Bakhtiari (PUP-knee), K Mason Crosby (PUP-knee), OL Elgton Jenkins (PUP-knee), LB Randy Ramsey (PUP-ankle), TE Robert Tonyan (PUP-knee), WR Christian Watson (pup-knee), RB Kylin Hill (PUP-knee), OT Rasheed Walker (NFI-foot), WR Sammy Watkins (NFI-hamstring), DB Keisean Nixon (NFI-groin)

Not Practicing / Limited: WR Malik Taylor (Shoulder), DT Akial Byers (Hamstring)

Offense:

  • Starting OL today is Tom - Runyan - Myers - Newman - Yosh
  • Rodgers to Lazard over the middle, slightly behind but a really nice adjustment on the catch for 20. Lazard got away from Douglas.
  • 2nd team OL Tom - Menet - Hanson - Rhyan - Van Lanen
  • OL Cole Van Lanen was the No. 2 RT and is now working at LG with the 3s.
  • Smoke route and a quick throw from Love to a completely unsuspecting Osiris Mitchell. The newbie not quite on the same page with everything yet.
  • Some collision action during team between Darnell Savage and Romeo Doubs. Aaron Rodgers zipped one in on a slant and Doubs held on while taking the hit and hitting the ground hard.
  • Rashan Gary offsides - free play - Rodgers takes the free play and throws one well behind Doubs, would have been insanely difficult catch, prob wouldn’t call it a drop, tips off his hands and Amos picks it off with a nice return but offsides negates the turnover.
  • Good short pass from Jordan Love to Tyler Davis on the comeback, with coverage. Might have been a false start by Davis though.
  • Nice little route from Aaron Jones to grab a pass over the middle from Rodgers.
  • Really nice pass pro from CVL against Enagbare - gave Love lots of time.
  • Nice drag route from Rodgers to Winfree for a nice pickup - nice pass pro from Yosh against Gary.
  • No more than 2 seconds passed between the time Rodgers broke the huddle and the snap of the ball. Defense had no time to react to formation. Jones catches ball over middle for nice gain. Love the little things.
  • Tyler Goodson is so smooth catching the ball. Just had a nice catch in the flat and then brought it up field - he may have been able to get in the end zone, would have been close.
  • Romeo Doubs just made a great hands catch on red zone fade, extending over Stokes for the TD. Rodgers put it where only 87 could get it, back shoulder high point.
  • Now Rodgers hits Cobb on an out for a TD on third and 4 against stokes. Stokes not really beat badly either just a great throw through a tight window.
  • Danny Davis touchdown on a short crosser from Jordan Love.
  • Nice floater to Tyler Davis for a TD from Love on a naked boot-style play to his weak hand.
  • Nice goal-line by Jordan Love, escaping pocket right to find Tyler Davis in end zone. Davis held on for TD despite taking a shot from CB Rico Gafford, then got up and spiked the ball.
  • Love to Mack for a td with Vernon Scott in coverage.
  • Doubs on a quick out catches an absolute laser from Rodgers for a TD right at the pylon in red zone work. Campbell was right there. Just perfect throw and catch. (The offense did have an illegal shift before the play.)
  • Rookies and younger players getting some post practice red zone work in. Nice touchdown catch - Etling to Toure.
  • And then a drop in the end zone from Hyman.
Defense:

  • Defense opened in nickel and had the usual suspects. Lowry, Clark, Reed on DL.
  • Beautiful rep by Devonte Wyatt. Took on the double team from Tom & TE, set the edge, got in the backfield and made the stop. Really nice play.
  • Beautiful play by Ento. Came over the top of Toure - legally - and almost came up with the pick off Etling. Really nice pbu. Leavitt also there.
  • Sean Rhyan & Devonte Wyatt with a fun heavyweight stalemate on a run. Fun matchup there.
  • Garvin is back but Hamilton and Galeai remain the No. 2 tandem at OLB.
  • Nice read by Lowry on a tight end screen to Deguara.
  • And Lowry just blew up a pitch on another play.
  • Great pbu by Shawn Davis - intended for Mack from Love. Was in the end zone. Defense celebrates.
  • Gary would be sack on Rodgers against Yosh. Rashan Gary has looked like a monster off the edge the past two days. Powerful, explosive.
  • Doubs vs Stokes is growing into must see tv. Really fun battle in team stuff.
  • Rashan Gary just walked Yosh into 12’s lap. Gary seems to do that *a lot* to tackles. He good.
  • Defense dominates a red-zone period. Only third-down conversion was a pass to Cobb but that was probably a sack by Gary.
  • Gary would be sack against Zach Tom. Gary is off to a red hot start at camp.
  • Big edge wins from Preston and Gary forces Rodgers to scramble up the middle on third and goal to end ones reps.
  • Defensive coverage has amped up in red zone big time. Hamilton and Slaton probably had love for a sack.
  • Nice blitz by Krys Barnes and a quick pass rush by Devonte Wyatt for a pressure on Love.
  • There are very few Jaire highlights because nobody is dumb enough to throw at Jaire. Just completely shut down.

Practice has ended after 1 hr 42 min.

Next Event:
Practice, July 30th 10:30AM CT.

Interviews:

LaFleur
Presser:

  • “He’s a guy that has consistently improved since he’s been here” MLF on Jake Hanson. “You’re going to see a lot of (OL) groups, especially early.”
  • Matt LaFleur says Jon Runyan, who started at left guard last season and has stayed there most of this offseason, will get some center reps in camp.
  • “He is a talented dude. He loves ball. He attacks it the right way.” MLF on Quay Walker.
  • Matt LaFleur says Aaron Rodgers playing in preseason games is "up for discussion" with so many new receivers in Packers offense. He says that discussion hasn't taken place yet, but LaFleur didn't shut the door to that possibility.

So why not let Runyan stay at guard and get good at it? I hate that every OL on GB has to be able to play more then one spot. How about instead of having a guy be decent at 2 or 3 spots he is really good or elite at one spot.

I said it right after the draft, and I still think Doubs is going to be one of those guys who slipped under everyone's radar. This guy has the hands, the smarts, and seems to know what QBs want from him, when plays develop.

He could end up being a special talent.

they haven't put the pads on yet, but doubs is the standout offensive player of camp days 1 & 2. i would not be shocked if he's a starter in week 1.

watson otoh looks like he's headed for a redshirt season.

Trade Watson for a OT. :)

Whoa, there boys and girls we are playing catch in shorts....no one is playing live ball yet. Let's see these rookie and UDFA guys vs another team DB at full speed and with a real D called before we start on the anyone is this or that kick....WAAAAAAY too early.

Ditto with....oh he's a bust. You must chill people.
