2025 Badger Football Thread

Thats why they didn't.... they tried to hide it in casew he had to play and ABC opened their trap

Which pisses me off.

I'm trying to defend these guys with the slimmest of straws, and they don't state why O'Neil's not playing. Say we're hoping to keep him around. Which just sends the media off on a head hunt that the kid's refusing to play.

Damnit! Just say he's hurt, he could probably go if necessary, but we're holding him out for his own good.

Regarding Lewis or Monken only, I think Wisconsin would have a better chance of luring Lewis away than Monken. Coaches seem to like the Academy jobs and Academy kids.
I guy I work with played for him at Georgia Southern... He seems to think he would take the job if offered. Plus, he's from the midwest, Peoria, IL

I think Georgia Southern whipped State one year. And, didn't they play us way too close?

For the life of me, I don't know why someone would take the WI job until the program turns around. I get the higher salary thing. But, if nothing changes, it's stepping into a hostile environment where people will be immediately screaming for your head without at least a bowl game. Yes, that should be enough money to live on, but WI could ruin a coaching career.

I think we're stuck with Coach Fick, cause I don't know who in their right mind would take the job now.

Fickell is most likely safe as long as the AD is safe who is likely safe as long as the Chancelor is safe.

For me this is a chicken/egg argument. Can you trust Mac and Fick to get the program turned around, and if you do, then you don't need another coach/AD.

You wanna fix overall recruiting - well, then you gotta win first. How does Fick suddenly turn this into a winner. Wanna fix in-state recruiting - Fick has messed that up, how does he suddenly fix it.

Improve NIL and overall spending on the program? . . . who is suddenly gonna pony up a bunch of money for this mess of a program with the same coach that messed it up, especially with how season ticket sales and donations are likely to drop off next season?

There are plenty of guys in their right mind who'll take a shot at a Power-4 job that pays decently, because these are guys who have confident personalities and believe they can make the difference. If they don't, then you don't want them as your coach anyway.

I'm also not worried about a new guy stepping into a hostile environment. First off, the program is at rock bottom, if the next guy wins 3-4 games fans will give him a honeymoon year or two, espevially if things "look" better and they're more competitive. Hostile is what Fick will see next year if he's back, coming off a 2 or 3 win season.

You're probably right.

It appears their are only a few that have friendly things to say about Coach Fickell - Barry, McIntosh, that rich donor, and the players.

It's just so difficult to comprehend the disaster that WI Football has become.

Somehow against all odds, a young inexperienced Carter Smith is going to keep Bucky from being Bowl ineligible this Saturday.

He's going to do it by throwing within the vicinity of Badgers more frequently than we are used to observing. The offensive line is going to opportunistically fall down in front of the Huskies to impede their path to Young Smith and whoever is running the ball. The team's equipment guys will get the game ball for applying extra stickem to our players gloves so that the ball sticks when it strikes their gloves despite their amazement the ball is still in Dane County.

The front seven is going to tackle. And the secondary is going to meander randomly into where they should be.

Our punter will take off on another devil may care jaunt for fame, chicks, beer, and cheese.

It's going to be a glorious 5th Quarter.
