Rodgers Wants Out

Only two other big "cash out" guys on the horizon, Adams and Alexander, and a couple coming off the books. That part shouldn't be an issue.

As for dumping a guy a year early, tell it it Dean Lowry, Kevin King, Lane Taylor, Mercedes Lewis (!) etc. This regime doesn't do that, and drawing a hard line with Aaron Rodgers of all people on the matter would be bizarre.

It’s an issue if you extend or even rework Rodgers contract. You can’t really make it a SB since that makes either additional years voidable years or both. And historically it’s been cash = cap so you go against philosophy.

Dunn and Rodgers know this, not their first rodeo. In order to make it on level with Mahomes you have to extend.

I know it. That's what has me worried. Are we going to see a motivated AR again this year? Crossing fingers that the injury bug stays away too. I know he's a finely tuned football machine, but when I was his age, I pulled a hamstring just thinking about pulling a hamstring. Who the heck am I fooling, I pulled the whole pig!!
C’mon!!
Pull yourself together, Bud!

Rodgers just could also be that Murphy and Gute see Rodgers as bigger headache then worth dealing with on the Murphy comments on the ML hire were true.

This is a simple controlling the timeline. I mentioned it yesterday that both sides drew a line in the sand. 3 ways this gets reconciled
1. The organization gives into an extension and let’s him go out on his terms
2. Rodgers backs down , accepts more cash for 2021& 2022 but not at “highest paid “ level
3. Move on and cut bait

In chances of happening I think it goes in order of 3,1,2

If I had to boil it down to one thing, I just think they should make a football decision here. I know Im repeating but if you believe in Love and believe he has a future in the NFL, then hold the line on Rodgers, take your lumps, commit to the kid and surround him with assets from a Rodgers trade. If you don't, then make it work with Rodgers, admit your mistake and start over with the succession plan. I know it's a business and other things come into play, but at the heart of things it's a football decision, and don't let sunk draft capital or cash (which the team gets for free any way without doing a thing) drive the decision.

If you "admit your mistake" you have effectively undermined the whole organizational hierarchy and long term this franchise can't function. They may very well do that but it will forever haunt this organization.
