2022 Badger Football Thread

Now, wait a minute never say never, in terms of a program going backward. And yes I don't care if you believe it or not in today's world with these kids culture is everything. I understand your recruiting stance and that's a part of it but there are a ton of programs that have solid recruiting classes that don't do crap in terms of W/L.... Why? Poor coaching and culture. UW alumni like yourself are going to wake up things far worse than this season if they don't embrace that concept and quickly.
And on the flip side there are programs like Iowa State who has done a fantastic job of changing the culture and have hit a ceiling because they don’t have the horses to hit the next level.

I don’t dismiss culture is important, but in the current environment of NCAA sports you either recruit at a high level or you are part of the “have not” crowd. Look at the SEC. It’s still legacy programs like UGA and Bama that dominate. ACC it’s Clemson, B1G is OSU and Michigan.

You also have to have right “hire” that boosters can buy in. Florida messed up with Mullen, FSU might be ok with Norville but the track record is not optimal and probably LSU will see that same issue very quickly.

I get why PC is gone, and yes a new voice was the right call. As I have stated my issue was timing. For one not one candidate mentioned in the so called “want” list excites me. Each have plusses and each come with red flags.

How they are raising money to pay for PC's buyout LOL

So a crappy 2023 class just got even crappier. WI ranks 61st in nation and 13th in Big Ten only ahead of IU which has only 9 committs for 2023.
I am surprised it took this long, there isn't an overwhelming sense of direction about UW FB right now at large. I talk to a lot of college FB folks around here that are connected and right now UW is way way behind in recruiting.

I don't think Leonard will be any better. Look at how crappy the D has become and that's his and his assitants jobs to recurit the D.

Also looking at the 2023 class not one player ranks in the top 500 in the nation. If whomever the new HC will be if they don't turn it around quick with the talent they are getting they won't be more then a 4-5 win team.

The defense lost a lot of talent from last year especially the LB crew. Herbig has been injured, Smith who is arguably the best CB has been out all year.

As to next year, this team is relatively young. Beach is the only OL who leaves. The 2022 class was 44th nationally and the 2021 class was 16th so if you want to focus on one class fine but it’s not 4-5 win talent next year

They still have not filled the staff cuts form Covid FWIW which I don’t understand. Not sure who is to blame there but it has an impact
