BadgerMens BB Thread 2023/24

I'm pretty sure that would be Chris McIntosh that approved that contract along with the Board of Regents and with what McIntosh has done so far, I don't think firing him makes any sense.

This is what McIntosh said to the MilwJS at the time of the deal: However, McIntosh told the Journal Sentinel last June that Gard’s restructured contract was a reward for his overall body of work, including winning two league titles. “It is absolutely a commitment to Coach Gard,” McIntosh said at the time. “And it is one that he has earned. The results speak for themselves.”

He's entitled to one mistake.

The buyout is part of the reason Gard will be back next year barring a total collapse down the stretch in the next month. After next year, I don't think the buyout will be the reason they don't get rid of him.
Agree it was a slip up on McIntosh and UW I think he won the Big Ten the year before and UW gave him that contract despite him not doing anything in what really matters was the NCAA Tourney.

I think McIntosh would be willing to step up and take responsibility for having made a mistake with that contract. He'd just recently taken over, and the contract given was for past services. There was no way he, nor anyone else, could have predicted in advance that this would happen. Some of us, as fans, had been concerned right along, but the loud voices of a minority of fans should never be the guiding factor for his decisions.

They are not going to let this program slip into hell. Count on it. He will make a move if he feels it's necessary. At this point, I have no idea what he's thinking, and quite honestly, I don't know if there are boosters out there who would pool their money to pay Gard off, if he's sent packing. Even more important, do they have at least 3 or 4 guys in mind, that they feel can lift this program to real national prominence? Lots of questions.

Time will tell. We're going to find out more during the off season.

They do go a new coach has to be more NBA scheme this defense scheme is drawing no real good players to the program.

More than anything I think Bucky needs to stop trying to run out the clock.

Yesterday's game - and many others - wouldn't be nail biters at the end, if, at the end of games, Bucky didn't slog around doing nothing on offense until the end of the shot clock before hurriedly and outside the offense throwing up a desperate and often well defended shot that more frequently than not doesn't go in giving our opponents opportunities to cut the deficit because Bucky is playing a relaxed defense trying to avoid plus ones.

Did Bucky even run a semblance of its offense during the last 4 minutes? I remember the announcers stating it was too early and allowing Maryland in the game.

I believe Bucky was lucky - very lucky - last night.

Not one pass over the top of the press? It was open the entire last 4 minutes. Other than going over the top to please me, I thought Bucky handled the press better than I've seen. But still over the top for a slam dunk - not a Bucky 40 / 60 layup - sets a tone that we're going to crush you.

That's coaching. That's on Gard. That's why he has to go.

(Just like in Football, I'm against trying to run out the clock. Actually, I'm that way in every sport. Score and score and score until there's no chance you can get caught - not unlikely- NO CHANCE.)

Bucky needs to take it one game at a time. Just beat Indiana.

I'd like to see it go that way. I think the Badgers could make it to the finals.
Badgers are like the Bucks hot and cold could lose 1st game could win the Big Ten Tourney

16 / 28 (57.14%) of layups made is all you really need to know to know why this team isn't going anywhere. I realize that IN played defense, but really, only making 57.14% of layups statistically shows your going to the hoop weak, afraid of the defender, and/or out of control.

With 4 left, many thought Bucky'd go 3-1 or at least 2-2. It's more probable they go 0-4.

We're no longer a lock to get an invite to the show. 18 wins doesn't do it - ESPECIALLY with the recent collapse. And, with Bucky's recent crap showings in the tournament. I believe selectors will choose to give someone else a try rather than letting this team in.

Maybe we'll get an invite to the NIT, and they'll get stomped there.

If this continues, Gard is going to be out. Sad thing last night is that stoppage of play. The Badgers had the Hoosiers gassed, and it showed on the court. We have more depth. If it wouldn't have happened, the Badgers might have buried them.

One thing for certain. Crowl is no match up for anyone who is 6-10 or more. He kind of melts into the background.

Chucky played well, but had problems on his drives. Like you said, intimidated near the bucket.

Blackwell needs to be on the floor more.

I'm not certain Gard knows how to coach this time to be honest.

I wonder who we'll see coming in to run the program after this season ends?
