Official 2020 Packers Training Camp Thread

I think Love has zero percent chance to be #2 I am thining though will Boyle be on the team next year and would they even consider to keep Boyle as the backup when Love takes over.

i don't see why they wouldn't unless they get a really great trade offer - which isn't very likely.

I don't think from a coaching perspective you need to or would want to put Love in any live game situations unless you have to this year, you let him sit and learn and soak it all in... bigger roster makes it all work.

Next preseason you can see what he's got early.

not even mop-up in the last few minutes of a game that is clearly decided (like that ever happens)?

I get what GBP is saying.
2020 is the final year of Boyle's contract. In 2021 he will be a RFA.

So should the Packers tender him for 2021?

I say YES, because that tender will likely still be cheaper than one year of Love's guaranteed contract, and keeping Boyle thru 2021 (at a RFA price) makes a lot of sense.
Let the chips fall where they may after the 2021 season.
-AR gone after 2021?
-Love ready to start in 2022?
-Who's the backup to Love in 2022, if he becomes anointed as starter?

Too early to answer those doozies!

I agree with everyone who says Love sits this year unless we see both Rodgers and Boyle go down. With no preseason, there's absolutely no way he can prepare for what's going to happen when he takes the field. A lot of rookies, who are thrown into the mix this year are going to fail miserably. There just won't be the necessary learning curve.

Sounds like Gary took care of his body in the off-season they say he is a few pounds heavier then last year at 276 but it appears to be muscle as he is more defined then what he was last year. Gary said he spent the off-season watching his diet and running gassers at his high school bleachers and working on footwork drills with a former postion coach.

Day 3 Camp Update:

Practice Starts at: 10:30 AM CST

General:

Full Pads Today

Not Practicing: LS Hunter Bradley (COVID IR), LB Greg Roberts (COVID IR), Corey Linsley (Rest)

Injuries: RB Patrick Taylor (NFI), OL Simon Stepaniak (NFI), OL Yosh Nijman (PUP), LB Curtis Bolton (PUP), WR Devin Funchess (Opt-Out IR)

Offense:

Packers C Corey Linsley isn’t in pads or a helmet today for the first day of full pads. Also not working with the offensive lineman, might be out today.

Jon Runyan Jr. spending a lot of time around David Bakhtiari the last couple days. Not a bad guy from the rookie to learn from.

Tyler Ervin is again rotating between RB and WR in drills.

Jaire vs. Adams kicks off 1x1 wr corner drills. Sticky coverage from Jaire but Adams won at the top of the route. Couldn’t come down with the pass though.

Great route from Tonyan on Savage for a completion.

Aaron Rodgers taking time to talk route running with TE Jace Sternberger during a break in action.

A picture perfect pass from Rodgers to EQ with Ka’Dar in coverage but it bounces off EQs fingertips.

Ervin with a sick route on Sullivan for an easy completion.

Deguara beats Greene easily on a corner route but Rodgers overthrows him by a fair margin.

EQ beats Ka’Dar on an out route to end 1x1’s. Team coming up.

Physical one-on-ones between the Packers wideouts & DBs as you’d expect. Aaron Rodgers & his crew had some difficulty connecting in the session.

Lucas Patrick is snapping to Aaron Rodgers to start 11-on-11s with Corey Linsley out.

First play of team, Jenkins mauls Montravius Adams and puts him on the ground on a run to the left.

Oh man the pop of those pads on the first team drill. We are back. Nice run by Aaron Jones to kick things off.

AJ Dillon with a beauty of a run and some burst to open the 2nd team offense. I don’t know how a human the size of AJ Dillon is as fast as he is.

Boyle hits Sternberger in stride off play action for a would be touchdown but Stern drops it. Had a step on the DB. Perfectly thrown deep corner route to the end zone.

Elgton Jenkins and Lucas Patrick both getting work at center with Linsley out. Rotating at LG too.

1v1s: R. Gary, B. Turner split | L. Taylor 2, M. Adams 0 | K. Clark, L. Patrick split | D. Lowry, E. Jenkins split | D. Bakhtiari 2, P. Smith 0 | T. Williams, R. Wagner split | J. Leglue 2, T. Hester 0 | J. Hanson 2, T. Lancaster 0 | K. Keke, J. Runyan split

O-line redeems itself by opening massive hole up front for Aaron Jones. Lots of back and forth today.

Rodgers dart to Lewis up the seam, dropped.

Ervin nice gain on a bubble screen. Great blocking by Lazard.

Adams with a grab over the middle with Kirksey closing fast.

First false start of camp by Deguara, but right side of O-line was blaming Gary. Close call.

Defense comes on a blitz but Aaron finds his not read for a quick completion to Tonyan.

Boyle to Deguara on a quick cross as the rookie TE beats rookie LB Kamal Martin. Doesn’t even break stride and pushes through for a TD.

Baylis and Hollman get tangled in the end zone and both fall to the ground. No refs here so tough to tell if it was PI.

Jamaal with a shifty run in the middle of the field. Found a small gap and made the most of it. Tonyan & Burks with a good collision. The D doesn’t let him through on next snap tho.

Patrick and Jenkins are doing work in the run game today.

Bakhtiari a bit slow to get up and exits at persuasion of coaches. Limping off the field. Light in at LT. They are looking at Bakhtiari's left foot on the sideline.

David Bakhtiari is walking inside with the rest of the team after practice under his own power and with no visible limp.

Defense:

Poor Curtis Bolton, just running sprints by himself. Guy wants in so bad.

Awesome coverage and pbu by Jackson on Kumerow. Sticky. If he gets his hands on you at the LOS, his physically can give WRs problems. But then Jackson holds MVS on his next rep.

King pbu in coverage on Lazard. Not Lazard’s best route.

Amos with an INT of Rodgers on the second play of team. Rodgers & Adams not on same page and Amos makes a diving INT in the red zone. Looked like it would have been a sack first too. Good rep for the D train. (Trayvon Hester would have had the sack.)

Lowry with a run stuff on Aaron Jones.

Now Chandon Sullivan with a nice run full on Jamaal Williams. No gain.

Za’Darius Smith has left the practice field so Jon Garvin, Tim Williams getting more reps at OLB.

Montravius Adams just abused Billy Turner and would have had a sack.

Gary knifes through for a tfl on Jamaal. Great play from Gary.

Tim Williams collects a “sack” of Jordan Love who held the ball forever and couldn’t find anyone.

Now Tim Williams with another impressive play as he collects a tfl. Great series for 47.

Z still out. Preston Smith and Rashan Gary running with the 1s at OLB.

Mont Adams off to a nice start of practice but came up with a limp after last team rep. Trainers looking at him. Looks like an ankle injury. Carted off the field.

EQ on a toss reverse is sniffed out by Amos who comes in like a heat seeking missile to make the stop.

Packers have been giving rookie Jonathan Garvin, Tim Williams and Randy Ramsey lots of work for fourth OLB spot. Hard to distinguish a pecking order, but when team split into two groups just now, Garvin and Williams stayed with top group while Ramsey split to second group.

Kevin King makes a really nice interception dropping in a zone. Rodgers never saw him on an underthrown corner route to Tonyan. Pressure on Rodgers courtesy of Preston Smith.

Kevin King nearly had another pick of Rodgers and he’s letting 12 know about it.

Stanford Samuels picks off Boyle in red zone. Good read.

Great PBU by Adrian Amos in endzone as Rodgers had Robert Tonyan open.

Jonathan Garvin proceeds to blow by backup LT Alex Light who subbed in for Bakh.

Incomplete to Ervin, Kirksey in coverage.

Josh Jackson kept good coverage on Adams. Rodgers looking to keep the drill alive tries to hit Adams on a fade. Jackson dropped a sure INT of Rodgers. Hit him right between 3 and 7.

Fantastic coverage by Chandon Sullivan on Davante Adams for a breakup in the end zone.

Practice ends with several pass breakups in the end zone and the defense yelling “D Train!” as the team heads into the Hutson Center. The Defense won today.

Press Conference Notes:

Coach Matt LaFleur says Corey Linsley was held out for "precautionary" reasons. He has no updates on David Bakhtiari, Za'Darius Smith or Montravius Adams, having just walked off the practice field.

LaFleur says intensity level will be cut back tomorrow. Packers will have two live periods, but jog through last half of Wednesday's practice. He says it'll be typical to a regular-season Friday practice.

Matt LaFleur on his starting secondary: " I feel as good about that group as any in the National Football League."

When asked if Robert Tonyan was in play to be TE1 Matt LaFleur said: "Absolutely."... "We feel really good about Bobby." Said it will be a competitive room for sure.

Billy Turner on getting work at RG and RT so far: "I've never approached a season thinking I was going to be playing the same position."..."I've never played the same position two years in a row. I can play any position on the offensive line."

Aaron Jones asked if he's ever heard so much buzz about the size of a RB's legs as he has with Packers rookie A.J. Dillon: "Only other person would be Saquon. I knew the first day when I saw his legs, I was like ‘Wow, this dude's legs are pretty big.""

RB Aaron Jones said he joked with NT Kenny Clark after he signed his extension, telling him, "I hope you left me some money." Said he was very happy that Clark received his extension.

Packers ILB Oren Burks, fully healthy after a partially torn pectoral cost him a starting spot last preseason: "I'm really excited to go into this year. I can't say it enough ... This is the best I've felt in a long time, physically."

Oren Burks says he was indecisive on whether or not to have surgery on torn pectoral until getting a second opinion that he didn't: "I think that was the best decision for me."
