Packers 2023-24 Season Thread

Arod isn’t getting traded. There is no way to make his contract workable for GB and other team.
He's tradeable same cap hit if he retires after June 1st. Any trade takes effect after June 1st. Which really does not matter because Rodgers never takes part in OTA's anymore.

Packers wouldn't trade him after June 1, they wouldn't be able to get useful draft capital for 2023.
IMO you don't need draft capital for 2023. This is not a SB team so the draft picks are not needed right away. Trade him after the 1st for cap reasons take the picks in 2024 or later. This team is a team that will need several drafts to rebuild the roster.

You absolutely need draft capital for 2023, you're starting a young QB, you need to put talent around him. You want to ruin Love, strip the team down around him.

Packers are a old team that has kept way to many old guys to keep Rodgers happy and make run at SB. Going to take few drafts to get young good talent one draft won't do that. Trading Rodgers before June 1st is a crippling cap hit GB can't take.

I disagree on how crippling it would be to trade him before June 1. Worse hit yes but not crippling, it becomes crippling the moment GB pays him that $58m option bonus which I believe isn't due until the day before the first game of the season.

As for the roster, sure there are some old guys but the only one who is actually important is Bakhtiari and he played well when he did play this year. Everyone else who is old is already irrelevant and the team would improve by getting rid of them. Cobb, Crosby, Lewis - who else I missing? Their most important players are otherwise young - Jenkins, Watson, Jaire, Clark, Gary.

It's not a SB roster but they're not going to become one by stuffing the roster with Rodgers' personal "Amen!" chorus.

"IF" trading Rodgers did happen, I wouldn't want picks from this year. I'd deal him to a team that's going to flounder, and we would end up with two very early picks. Their's and our own. The Packers will flounder too. That means the 2024 draft could be a dynamite opportunity to restock the shelves with young roosters.

Just my opinion. Give a year away, clear the cap space you need by getting rid of bloated contracts, and come back with a vengeance to reclaim your rightful place in the upper echelon, when you get the newbies in the house. It might take two years to get there but, when they do, it could be special again.

Except I don't think a 40-year-old QB will bring 2 early picks anymore...one yes/maybe. Two, only a team who is a piece away will do that TW.

Agree, they would be fortunate to get a day 1 pick and a day 2 pick and they won't be early picks in Rd1 because Aaron will retire rather than go to a foundering team. He'll want to go to a playoff quality team, and he has the power to make that happen by threatening retirement. I'm thinking at best you get a pick in the teens or twenties this year and a conditional pick for 2024.
